ALDERSON BEATRICE VIRGINIA Age 85. 1928-2014. On January 2, Jesus took her to Heaven so she could join her beloved husband James Alderson, Sr. and sons, Larry Alderson and James Alderson, Jr. Beatrice once worked for the Pentagon and the Department of Agriculture. She is survived by her sons, Danny and Terry Alderson; daughters, Theresa Shea and Cheryl Krajenke. Also survived by 11 grandchildren and five great-grandchildren; and her sisters, Shirley Fields of Oklahoma and Betty Barker of Virginia. BULLER RICHARD "DICK" age 93 passed away on January 2, 2014 in St. Louis, Missouri. He was born in Acme, Michigan on June 28th, 1920. A veteran of WWII, he served the US Army as a radio operator and was sent to Japan after the bombing of Hiroshima to help with the nation's rebuilding. After returning from the war in 1946, he completed his education at the University of Michigan and was hired as a disc jockey at a new radio station, WKMH, in Dearborn, Michigan in February 1947 and had a signature night time show aptly named "Sugar and Spice". In 1963, the radio station underwent an amazing change and became WKNR - Keener 13 - a perennial rock favorite in the Detroit area and Dick was a part of their newsroom. He remained at the radio station through one more change to WNIC in 1972 and retired in June 1985. Music played an important role in Dick's life - he met his wife of 62 years, Florence, while playing in Bill Sawyer's dance band at the Houghton Lake Playhouse. Music always filled the house - usually Frank Sinatra, Glenn Miller, Benny Goodman or Duke Ellington. Retirement found Dick and Florence traveling the country to be with their three children and six grandchildren. He is survived by his son, Richard Buller (Theresa) of St. Louis, MO; his daughter Deborah VanIttersum (Cliff) of Chesterfield, MO; and his daughter Katherine Kaherl (Dave) of Burlington, CT; grandchildren Derek VanIttersum (Wendy) of Hudson, OH, Julia Shafer (Robert) of Hastings, MI, Kyle VanIttersum (Christina) Luster of Manhattan, KS, Sarah Bennick (Aaron) of Philadelphia, PA, Ryland Buller of Juneau, AK and David Kaherl of Boston, MA. In addition, Dick is also survived by four great-grandchildren, Lucy and Abigail Shafer, and Matteo and Theo VanIttersum; and two brothers, Ronald Buller and Roger Buller both of Traverse City, MI. He is pre-deceased by his beloved wife, Florence, and his brother, Raymond Buller. CZERWINSKI SGT. ARTHUR STEVE USMC, of Sterling Heights, Michigan passed away on December 31, 2013, born January 25, 1924 in Detroit, Michigan. Predeceased by his parents; Jakub and Stanislawa Czerwinski and six brothers and sisters. Former CCC Camp Fox and Camp Cousino leader 1941-1942. In April 1943, Arthur enlisted in the United States Marine Corp. He was sent to the South Pacific during World War II aboard the Casper T. Bliss troop ship. Arthur spent time on Noumea, New Caledonia; Efate and Esperito Santos, New Hebrides Islands; Guadalcanal, Solomon Islands; Leyte, Phillipines; Bougainville; Biak and Owi; Netherlands, East Indies; Manus and Los Negros, Admiralty Islands; and the Peleliu Islands until WWII ended. Arthur was employed at the Micromatic Hone Corp. 1943-1971 as a shipping clerk and then as a brewer for the Stroh's Company from 1971-1985. Arthur loved visiting the Upper Peninsula, hunting, fishing, his family and friends, especially his two best friends, Leonard Czanstke and Kathryn A. George. HIGGINBOTTOM JAMES H. "JIM" died at his home in Phoenix on Friday, December 27. The cause was cancer. Born in Detroit, Michigan, Mr. Higginbottom served in the U.S. Army during the Korean War then returned to Detroit, where he attended the Rockham School of Graduate Studies, University of Michigan. He became a copy editor and turf writer at the Detroit News, covering national horse racing and writing a daily handicapping column. He was the Director of the National Turf Writers' Association. A great pleasure in his life was that he saw all the great horses of the era and saw every race Secretariat ran. Mr. Higginbottom also served as a chief or senior racing official in Michigan, Illinois, Indiana and Minnesota. While in Michigan he supervised both quarter horse and thoroughbred horse racing and guided Michigan's quarter horse racing to the regulated pari-mutual level. Mr. Higginbottom was appointed the first Director of the Arizona State Gaming Agency in 1993. When the Agency split he was appointed Director of Arizona Department of Racing, where he served until 2000. Mr. Higginbottom is survived by his wife, Elaine Jordan; daughter Lisa Higginbottom, Henderson Nevada, son Lindsey Higginbottom and his wife, Gail Chapman, Whitmore Lake, Michigan; step-son, Matthew Wellens and granddaughter Brittany Higginbottom.
