BOLEN EDWARD PATRICK "PAT" (87) of Englewood, Florida and Hillman, Michigan passed away Saturday December 29 after a short battle with congestive heart failure. He was born December 9, 1925 in Grand Rapids, Michigan to Edward and Olive Bolen. At 18, Pat joined the Merchant Marines and sailed the world. He then studied theater arts at Wayne State University and headed off to do summer stock and vaudeville in New York City. By his late twenties, he had moved back to Michigan and began selling nonwoven textiles. His knowledge and drive lead to a successful career in textiles and he started two textile companies and ran them for the next 25 years. After his retirement in 1990, he began spending winters in sunny Florida and summers up on Lake Avalon in upper Michigan. He was a devout catholic and regularly attended mass at St. Raphael's in Englewood and St Augustine in Hillman. His hobbies were Bridge, tennis, golf, and downhill skiing. He had a beautiful tenor voice and enjoyed singing barbershop. His two great loves were his family and traveling. Fortunately, he was able to combine them both for most of his life. He is survived by his wife Sharon and four children Margie (Victor) Loewen, Kimberley (Roy) Choma, Pat Bolen, Dan (Kathy) Bolen, and 10 grandchildren. BRAGG CHRISTOPHER W., age 29, of Toledo, Ohio and formerly of Troy, Michigan died suddenly on Saturday, December 29, 2012 at Flower Hospital in Sylvania, Ohio. He was born in Royal, Oak on May 30, 1983 to Terry L. and Diane W. (Henderson) Bragg. Christopher was a 2001 graduate of Troy Athens High School, and also attended Western Michigan University and the University of Toledo. He was currently employed as a Sales Representative with Verizon Wireless. He is survived by his mother, Diane W. (James E.) Goodsmith; father, Terry L. Bragg; sister, Julie L. CUNNINGHAM MARY Age 75 died at 10:15 am December 30, 2012 at Van Wert County Hospital. She was born October 14, 1937 in Detroit to James and Marjorie Cunningham (Myers). She married Michael Acquaviva who preceded her in death. She retired from Chrysler after 22 years of service and she was a devoted Detroit sports fan. Survivors include two sons, Michael (Maureen) Acquaviva of Detroit and Leonard Acquaviva of Van Wert, two grandchildren, James (Heather) Acquaviva and Amanda Acquaviva, also four great grandchildren Toni, James, Noah, and Tyra. DAY JUNIOR CLARENCE "CLANCY" Age 87, Passed away on December 31, 2012 He is survived by his loving wife of 66 years; his daughter Megan, and sons Daniel and Randy (Sue); his grandsons Aaron, Ethen and Owen and two great-grand-children. Mr. Day was predeceased by his son Larry. Clancy was born in Kansas City, Mo and served as an Officer in the ROTC. At The Age of 17 he Joined the U.S. Marine Corp. and fought in the Island jungles of the South Pacific in World War II. After The War he Graduated from College in Kansas City Mo. and worked as an Executive at GM for 30 Years and traveled the world extensively with the GM Overseas Operations Group. Clancy retired from GM and started New Dimensions, a computer\ consulting business in 1984 which is still family operated in Troy, MI. He and his wife Polly retired to Jensen Beach Fl. Where they lived very happily for the last 18 years. Clancy enjoyed his retirement and always enjoyed telling stories and jokes and sharing his thoughts. He will be deeply missed. GALPIN HELEN MARIE (STEVENSON) October 17, 1915. December 16, 2012. Helen passed away quietly at her home. An amazing woman, a role model to her family and friends, and a life well lived. Born and raised in Vancouver, B.C., daughter of Bertram and Maryanne Stevenson (Cook), and younger sister of Douglas Coney Stevenson. After college, she married Richard Galpin and after World War II they moved to Detroit so Richard could complete his Pediatric training. A devoted mother, she raised four children: Kenneth, Peter, Lindley and Sheila. She was a graduate of UBC (Vancouver, British Columbia) in Social Work. After raising her family, she returned to graduate school and received her Masters Degree in Social Work from Wayne State University (Detroit, Michigan). After divorce, she returned to B.C., had a full career as a medical social worker at Royal Inland Hospital in Kamloops, BC and retired to Comox on Vancouver Island. A woman of incredible spirit, an avid traveler and sailor her adventures were legendary: solo-trekking the Hindu Kush mountains of Afghanistan, sailing to the Queen Charlotte Islands, road trips to Mexico were but a very few of these. Her love of art and music and a compulsion for community service led her to found art centers, jazz festivals and kite festivals in the Detroit area as she raised her family. She is survived by her children: Peter, Lindley, and Sheila. Her grandchildren: Karen and Amy Wilmot, Thyra Carnes and Nedra Meredith, Akira and Mikiko Galpin. Her great-grand-children: Walter, Ella, Daniel and Samuel. A devoted lover of animals she was companion to furry-feathered-family to her last days. He was the owner of Harrelson Plumbing Co. in the Aspen, Colorado area for 30 years and moved to South Padre Island in 2005 where he was the owner of Island Plumbing Co. Allen had a passion for restoring classic Corvettes, riding his motorcycle and being challenged to a good game of billiards - he thoroughly enjoyed life and could always be seen smiling. He will be dearly missed by his family and everyone whose lives he touched. A small, private funeral service was held by his family on December 14th in Texas.
