BROOKS PATRICIA BLACKWOOD "PATTY", 87, of Grosse Pointe, December 14, 2012. She graduated from Denison University before returning to Grosse Pointe, where she married George M. Brooks in 1948. A devoted mother, Mrs. Brooks' family was her greatest source of pride. She was an active member of the Country Club of Detroit, the Grosse Pointe Gardening Club and volunteer at Goodwill Industries. She loved to entertain, travel and especially spend time with her family and many wonderful friends of all ages. BROWN IVAN RUSSELL a resident of Ann Arbor, MI., passed away at his mother's home on January 8, 2013 with his family at his side. He was born October 11, 1966 in Wayne, Michigan. He leaves behind his mother, Barbara Fulkerson, and two sisters, Virginia (Jeff) Carter and Annette (Mark) Fulkerson. Also four nieces, two grand-nieces and two grand-nephews. He was preceded in death by his father, Ivan M. Brown and an older brother, James R. Brown. He will be remembered for his kind and loving treatment of those he cared for in home health care. He was also well known for his creative and artistic cake decorating skills and fancy pastries. He had a unique but exquisite style for home decorating and garden design. CARRETTA KATHERINE ANNE (McNALLY) 88, died peacefully, surrounded by her family, in Bloomfield Hills, MI on January 18, 2013. She is the beloved wife of the late Ralph A. Carretta Jr. She is predeceased by adoring parents Katherine and Frank McNally; brothers Eugene and Frank McNally; parents-in-law Judge Ralph Sr., and Pauline Carretta; and sister-in-law Eleanor (the late Joseph) McConville. She is survived by children Ruth Carretta (life companion Carlos Salamanca), Joyce Kashawlic (husband Sean), and Carol Phalen (husband Stephen); grandchildren Bryan Kashawlic (wife Patricia), Erin Kashawlic, and Nicole, Casey, Rachel, and Amy Phalen; sisters-in-law June McNally and Mary McNally; cousin Joan (Dr. Richard) Frary; and many nieces and nephews. Anne was formerly of Bronxville, New York, Sarasota, Florida, Framingham, Massachusetts, and West Bloomfield, MI. Anne was born in 1924 in New York, NY. She and her brothers were raised in Mt. Vernon, NY. Anne became an avid reader at a young age, lover of books, history, genealogy, and her family. She graduated from Manhattanville College in 1946, and enjoyed a career in research and marketing with Young & Rubicam Advertising Agency in Manhattan, NY. In 1954, she married a rising young attorney, Ralph A. Carretta, Jr., and settled in Eastchester, NY. There they raised their three daughters and enjoyed many years near a wealth of family and friends. As the girls grew, Anne became an ardent genealogist, volunteering at the Westchester Historical Society for many years. She published a book on cemeteries in Westchester County that is cataloged in the National Library of Congress, and she is a life member of the Daughters of the American Revolution. Anne's greatest love was for her family. Her other pleasures included reading, especially fact-based historical novels, Irish music and dancing, swimming, libraries, book stores, cats, teas, cookies, and vanilla milkshakes. She was a soft-spoken woman who defined quiet strength, courage, and wisdom. Anne and Ralph retired to Sarasota, FL in 1988 where they enjoyed many years of family visits, learning opportunities through Elderhostels, and travel abroad. Anne spent her last eight years living with or near her three daughters and grandchildren. Her last year was in the loving care of the staff at Sunrise of Bloomfield Hills, MI. GRECH KAY DELORES of Britton Michigan passed away on December 24, 2012. Kay was born in Detroit on October 24, 1934 to William and Violet Daley. On July 28,1956 she married Arthur A. Grech. HALUSKA DIANA, 85 of Midland died Wednesday afternoon, January 16, 2012 at the Cartwright Center. She was born August 24, 1927 in Redfield, Iowa, daughter of the late Dale and Blanche (Sloan) Chance. She grew up in Redfield and graduated valedictorian from Redfield High School. She received her BS degree in business from the University of Iowa, and was a member of the Zeta Tau Alpha sorority. On February 5, 1948 she married Loren Haluska in Iowa City, and they moved to Midland in 1951. Diana was a member of the First United Methodist Church. She belonged to several bridge clubs, and was an excellent cook. She will be missed by her husband, Loren; children, Janet Haluska of Rochester Hills, and Bruce (Pat) Haluska of Houston, Texas; sister, Joan Johnson of Virginia; grandchildren, Charles and Tiffany; and daughter-in-law, Claudia Haluska of Wixom. She was preceded in death by her son, David Haluska in 2012. Funeral services will take place at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, January 23, 2013 at the First United Methodist Church, 315 Larkin Street in Midland. Rev. Dr. Charles Keyworth will officiate, with burial in Midland Cemetery. Along with her husband, she traveled extensively for business and pleasure. One of her many joys in life was to entertain family and friends in her home. Mr. Innes was involved with several Masonic affiliations: Monroe Chapter of the Royal Arch, Valley of Detroit Scottish Rite Bodies, Life Member of the Muslim Shriners, and the Detroit Commandery No. 1 Knight Templar. JACOBS RICHARD L. "DICK" Born February 9, 1932, of Naples, Florida, formerly of Orchard Lake, MI, passed away peacefully January 10, 2013. Dick is survived by his longtime companion, Donna VonMinden; his children, Dawn Jacobs, Lori House (Tom), and Kurt Jacobs; and grandchildren, Scott (Lane Ana) and Leslie House, and Zach, Shaun, and Meggan Jacobs; as well as his former wife, Wilma Jacobs. Dick was a lifelong athlete and a founding member of The Friends of Mackenzie, which awarded scholarships to young students and athletes at Detroit's Mackenzie High, which he attended. His passion for athletics and golf formed the basis for the life lessons he passed along to his children and grandchildren -- never take more than you deserve, never write down something that isn't true.
