After graduating as valedictorian of his class in Bethlehem, Palestine, Dr. Alam was awarded a full scholarship to the University of Kansas City, Missouri traveling to the U.S. alone at age sixteen. His desire to be with family brought him to Detroit, where he enrolled at Wayne State University and met the love of his life, Geraldine Wolfe. He started his academic career as a science teacher, and quickly rose through the ranks, to become a school administrator in Port Huron, MI. Dr. Alam retired as Associate Superintendent from Dearborn in 1994 and went on to become Superintendent at Saudia Airline Schools in Saudi Arabia, retiring in 1997. He worked and travelled extensively in the Middle East, as well as around the world. Dr. Alam will be fondly remembered by his many loving relatives and friends. BERG LYNWOOD B. 77, of Poway, California, died August 6, 2012. "Lyn" was born in Livonia, the youngest of three brothers and two sisters. He attended Clarenceville School before moving with his parents in 1948, to the San Diego, CA, area. There, he attended LaMesa Jr. High, Grossmont High and San Diego State University. Lyn and his wife, Shirley were married in 1958, and sadly, she preceded him in death in 1999, after 41 years of marriage. He is survived by two daughters, Jeanette (Tommy) Dowdy of Tucson, Arizona, and Jerelyn Hammer of Hilo, Hawaii; four grandchildren, Jason Berg, Rachael Berg, Steven Hammer and Felicia Hammer; and numerous nieces and nephews. Lyn was a manufacturing supervisor for General Atomics in Torrey Pines, CA. He accepted an early retirement offer after 33 years of service and was a quality assurance manager until his retirement in 2000. In 1972, the family moved to Poway, CA, a "City in the Country", located 25 miles northeast of San Diego. Here they built their home to live, shop and play for the next 40 years. Memorial contributions are directed to the American Diabetes Association. Lyn will be privately interred at Grand Lawn Cemetery, Detroit. BOND PATRICIA CYNTHIA passed away on August 4, 2012 after a lengthy illness. "Tisha" was born and raised in Detroit, Michigan, and later moved to St. Clair Shores where she graduated from St. Gertrude High School. She completed her Bachelor of Arts with Elementary Teacher Certification and a secondary Undergraduate Degree in Religious Studies at the University of Detroit Mercy in Detroit, Michigan. From there, she earned her Masters of Arts in Teaching in Reading and Language Arts at Oakland University in Rochester Hills, Michigan. Tisha was a devoted teacher who cared deeply for her students, their education, and their well-being. She taught elementary school at St. Lawrence Catholic School in Utica, Michigan, Guardian Angels Catholic School in Clawson, Michigan, St. Anne Catholic School in Houston, Texas, and several schools in the Clark County School District in Las Vegas, Nevada, including several schools for "at-risk" students. Tisha also taught Catechism classes at various parishes in the Catholic Church. She volunteered and took leadership positions in numerous educational committees in the Clark County School District, including the D.A.R.E. program. Tisha was an avid piano player and taught piano lessons and tutored children in reading and math after retiring from teaching in 2002. She was an author of children's books, and she enjoyed spending time writing, drawing, trying new recipes, working puzzles, playing games, and spending time with her family. Tisha is preceded in death by her father and mother, Norman and Babe Blake. She is survived by her husband of 28 years, Richard Bond; her son and daughter-in-law, Scott and Jenny Beasley; her sister and brother-in-law, Sharon and Jim Francis; and her nieces and nephew, Lori McCarthy, Mary Peters and Tim Francis. Pamela loved her children, grandchildren, gardening and animals.
