ARKESTEYN DIANA MARIE Of Spring Park, MN. Passed away on October 4th, 2011 at the age of 89. Diana was born on January 29, 1922 in Cornwall, England. The family first moved to Toronto, Canada and later settled in Detroit, MI. Diana graduated from Cooley High School in Detroit in June of 1939, following which she worked for the Kerr Dental Company for ten years. On September 11, 1948 in Fredford, MI, she married Cornelius (Casey) Arkesteyn. Diana was devoted to her small family and enjoyed a wide circle of dear firends, both in Michigan and Florida. Diana is survived by her husband, Cornelius; a son, John (Karen) and three grandchildren, Caroline, Lillian and Cameron, all of Wayzata, MN. Also surviving is one brother, Kenneth (Janice) of Naples, FL and several loving nieces and nephews. He practiced medicine in his clinic on Warren Ave, 1950-2000, and continued to make house calls to his house-bound geriatric patients until 2007. He was a life member of the Dearborn Country Club. BRIDWELL BERNARD T. "BEN", age 79, born on November 9, 1931 in Evanston, Illinois and passed away on October 7, 2011. Ben is survived by his beloved wife of 53 years Sharon; his sons Michael and Patrick; and his grandchildren Lauren and Eric. Ben served his country in the U.S. Army and later in the intelligence service, before a career in law enforcement with the Oak Park Department of Public Safety. BRISTAH EMILY (JO) Died peacefully October 1, 2011 at the Seminole Shores Living Center in Norton Shores. Born Emily Ann Josif on March 7, 1924 in Moulmein, Burma, to the daughter of Baptist missionaries George and Esther Josif, Emily earned her lifelong nickname "Jo" for her tomboy ways. Jo went to graduate school at Colgate Rochester Divinity School in New York where she became active in the Women's International League for Peace and Freedom and the Congress of Racial Equality. It was also there she met her future husband, James Bristah. Jim and Jo were married November 22, 1947. After hitching in New York, they then hitchhiked to Detroit where Jim began his Methodist ministry, and they began their long partnership in raising their family and in working for peace, racial equality and social justice. They founded the Swords Into Plowshares Peace Center & Gallery in downtown Detroit in 1986, and were long-time members of Central United Methodist Church. Jo loved word games, humor, nature, and music, but mostly she loved people. She could draw in individuals of all ages, races, and walks-of-life with her smile. To her, there were no differences, just people. She will be greatly missed. Jo is preceded in death by her husband Jim, son Nels, and brother Harold Josif. She is survived by her daughters and sons-in-law Chris Bristah (Jeff Patrick) of Bainbridge Island, WA; Cheryl Bristah (Bob Robison) of Portland, OR; Gayle Bristah of Muskegon, MI; and Pam Bristah (David Wright) of Wellesley, MA; along with brothers Paul and Donald Josif, sister-in-law Sylvia Josif, and niece Elly Josif.
