Jane's parents and her sister Betty predeceased her. Jane graduated from Muskingum College in New Concord, Ohio with a bachelor's degree in English. Following Al's retirement as Vice President of Labor Relations for General Motors, they were able to stay in South Africa for several weeks of the year. Jane delighted in photographing the animals that she encountered on their visits.
