DZYNGEL WILLIAM ALEXANDER "BILL" Age 67, of Morristown, Tennessee, formerly of Farmington Hills, passed away at his home Thursday, August 15, 2013, after a long battle with cancer. He worked for Searle A.M.S. International as a Bio-Medical Engineer. After retirement he worked at Lowes Home Improvement. He was a golf aficionado, a soccer coach, and a life-long Toronto Maple Leafs fan and had a love of boating. Bill was also a professional Eastern European ethnic dancer. He was preceded in death by his parents, Rose and Bill Dzyngel, as well as his son, Andrew Morgan Dzyngel. ELLIOTT KATHERINE JOHNSTONE 89, died on August 16, 2013 under hospice care in Southfield, MI. She is survived by her children, William Clayton (Dora), Judith Ann (Arnie Alpert), and Janet Campbell (Jack); her three beloved grandchildren, Donald (Crystal) Elliott, Jim (Kim) Elliott, Margaret Berry, great-granddaughter Evelyn; brother Robert (Mary Ann) Johnstone; and numerous nieces and nephews. Kay was preceded in death by her husband Donald Elliott whom she married December 29, 1945, and her brothers Edward and William. She earned her Masters degree and Ph.D. in educational psychology from Wayne State University. She retired from Royal Oak Schools as Director of Pupil Personnel Services in 1985. She and Don then moved to western North Carolina where they enjoyed active lives, including volunteer work and world travel. Kay lived her final years in Troy near family. Katy will be remembered for her quiet, kind and gentle spirit. HOWENSTEIN WILLIAM KING 80, Detroit business and community leader, died Thursday, August 15, 2013, at St. John Hospital and Medical Center in Detroit, with his family at his side. His death followed an eight-year battle with Myelodisplastic Syndrome (MDS). Mr. Howenstein, known to his friends as "Bill," was a true gentleman with a stellar intellect and a dry, sharp, and effortlessly disarming wit that won him friends the world over. His resilience, grace, and humility never wavered. Insightful wisdom, strategic skills and vision made him an irreplaceable mentor to countless family members, friends, and business associates. He was born May 2, 1933, in Detroit, to Harry Baron and Eloise FitzSimons Howenstein and lived his life in Grosse Pointe Farms with his wife of 52 years, Lorna "Lorrie" Candler Howenstein. He was the loving father of four daughters: Elise H. Trulaske (Steve), Sheila H. Fruehauf (Rick), Brooke H. Fink (Tom) and Fay H. Savage (Paul) and a son, William K. Howenstein Jr. (Angela). He was the proud grandfather of 21: Jack, Lucy and Slater Nalen and Stephen and Kay Trulaske; Louisa and Harry Fruehauf; Harriet, Grace, Katherine, Laura, Claire and Margaret Fink; Samantha, May, Lorna and Betty Savage; and Billy, Paige, Libby and Bo Howenstein. He was the dear brother of Harriet H. Hull and Beth H. Crane. He was predeceased by his parents, Harry Baron Howenstein, Eloise FitzSimons Howenstein, Grace Briggs Howenstein and his siblings, Jean H. Robertson and Robert Baron Howenstein. Mr. Howenstein was educated at Portsmouth Abbey School in Rhode Island and attended Dartmouth College, class of 1956, before serving in the U.S. Army, stationed in Wurzburg, Germany, where he served as an SP3 in the 10th Signal Corps of the 10th Mountain Division. His business career began in Detroit in 1956 as a salesman of automotive parts to Ford Motor Co., General Motors Corp. and Chrysler Corp. on behalf of FitzSimons Manufacturing Co., a maker of on-time fuel systems components for auto and truck assemblers in North America. In 1965, he joined Copper & Brass Sales Inc., a processor and distributor of non-ferrous metals. In 1967, he became general manager of the Oakland, Calif., branch of Copper & Brass Sales Inc.; in 1969, he became president of the company; and in 1979, he became the chairman and chief executive officer. Under Mr. Howenstein's direction, Copper and Brass Sales Inc. grew from a local to a regional to a national, and ultimately, to an international company with 45 locations across the United States and Canada with 1,600 employees. In 1997, he was instrumental in directing the sale of the business to ThyssenKrupp Materials North America, for whom he then served as the executive vice president until his retirement in 1998. He served as president of the National Association of Aluminum Distributors from 1976 to 1978 and he was a director of Stanadyne Corp. from 1976 to 1988. He also served on the boards of MascoTech Inc., and the Stroh Companies Inc. Mr. Howenstein served his community through leadership roles in several organizations. His dedication to the Detroit area community is evidenced by his service on the board of United Way Southeast Michigan, and later as a trustee of the Community Foundation for Southeast Michigan, where he was also a member of the Anderson Fund and the Whitney Fund. He also served as a director of the Economic Club of Detroit, the Detroit Regional Chamber of Commerce and Brighton Hospital. He was also a committed member on the advisory boards of Boys & Girls Clubs of Metro Detroit. Most recently, he focused his attention toward environmental conservation of Michigan by providing years of support and service to The Nature Conservancy as a corporate advisor. Mr. Howenstein's lifelong commitment to service was also demonstrated through his support of several educational institutions. He was a longtime supporter of the Cornerstone Schools in Detroit, the Grosse Pointe Academy, and also notably served as chairman of the board of consultants for Portsmouth Abbey School, where he was honored as regent emeritus. Mr. Howenstein was a member and past president of the Country Club of Detroit, a former director of the Yondotega Club, as well as a member of the Grosse Pointe Club and the Bayview Yacht Club. In Harbor Springs, he was a member of the Little Harbor Club, the Wequetonsing Golf Club, the Harbor Point Golf Club and the Harbor Point Association, for which he served as a director. He was also a member of the Everglades Club in Palm Beach, Fla, and the Loblolly Golf Club in Hobe Sound, Fla. He had a lifelong passion for grass roots politics and was involved in many local campaigns. He was also a retired multiengine instrument rated pilot, an avid sailor and had a genuine respect and love for the game of golf. He achieved two holes-in-one and was a member of the U.S. Seniors Golf Association. Mr. Howenstein's faith was strong and he was a good friend of the Catholic Church. He was a life long parishioner of St. Paul on the Lake Catholic Church, a member of the Foundation Board for Sacred Heart Major Seminary, and was invested as a Knight of Magistral Grace in the Sovereign Military Order of Malta (Knights of Malta). His family said he remained faithful to the values and traditions of his early years and encouraged all of his children to embrace these values. His example of devotion and loyalty will remain as an inspiration for those who will follow. JURATOVAC VICTOR Passed away August 14, 2013 in Arizona. Victor is survived by his loving wife of 40 years, Yon (nee Budda). He was born in Detroit, Michigan on September 12, 1947. He will be missed by his brother, Robert, and sisters, Rozanne (Walter) Honecker, Marian (William) Enright, and Joanne (James) Loeffler. He was preceded in death by his parents, Peter and Mary, and sister, Diane. Victor was a proud uncle to Amy, David, Kelsey, Mallory, and Abby and great-uncle to Nathan and Andrew. He moved to Scottsdale, Arizona in 1996 and worked for JDA Software until 2011. Victor enjoyed fantasy baseball and followed many professional sports. While he followed and cheered for Arizona sports teams, his loyalties to the Detroit teams never wavered. Victor served in the U.S. Air Force from 1969 to 1973. Burial was at the National Memorial Cemetery of Arizona. A memorial gathering in Michigan will be held at a later date.

She graduated from Mackenzie High School in Detroit. She married Nelson Mayer on July 25, 1964 in Detroit. Sharon is survived by her husband Nelson; sons Christopher, Eric and Kurt; sister Selma; nephew George and his family; niece Sheri and her family; and grandson Roderick. A Michigan native, Sharon enjoyed revisiting several favorite Michigan locations over the years with her family, was well known for her love of reading, gardening, her enjoyment of feeding her backyard birds, and her many beloved pets over the years. She was a devoted wife and mother, and will be missed by her family and many friends. MONTICELLO KATHLEEN ANN Age 82, of Redford August 22, 2013. Wife of the late William Andrew Monticello (1995), she is survived by her brother John Raleigh (Anna) and sister Mary Ellen Carraway (Mike), as well as her children Thomas (Cindy), John (Carol), Daniel (Elizabeth), Anne Marie Schuster (Hans), Michael (Lenore), James (Julia), George (Michelle) and Robert (Michelle), as well as 17 grandchildren, and her brother-in-law Edward Orr. A devoted mother, grandmother, aunt and sister, Kathleen was born and raised in Michigan, residing in Redford for the past 60 years. Kathleen was a champion for education, attending Wayne State University, and she remained an active member of her sorority Alpha Sigma Tau. In October of 1952, she married William Andrew Monticello, the love of her life, and her partner raising 8 children throughout their 43 years of marriage. A friend to all she encountered, Kathleen was a teacher and Vice Principal at St. Agatha's Catholic School in Redford. She was a gifted actor and participant with the Farmington Players throughout her life, and a lifelong member of the Dumbarton People's Theatre, while living abroad in Dumbarton, Scotland. An avid bridge player, Kathleen enjoyed her regular gettogethers with the Theta Tau bridge club. Family and friends remember Kathleen for her sewing abilities and the beautiful quilts that she handmade for each of her 17 grandchildren. She was an active member of St. Agatha's and St. Priscilla's Parishes, and a well-loved and respected member of the Redford Twp community. Kathleen enjoyed staying up sharing stories with family and sleeping in late the next morning, particularly in her much loved summer residence on the shorefront of Lake Huron in Lexington, MI. One would often find her sitting on the back porch listening to the waves while reading a book or finishing the NY Times Sunday morning crossword puzzle. ROTTENBERG DR. LEON a compassionate physician, talented violinist, beloved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, died on Saturday, August 10, 2013 at the age of 98. Born in Baltimore, Maryland in 1914, he married his high-school sweetheart, Adeline Sax, in 1937 and graduated from Wayne State University School of Medicine in 1938, first in his class. After serving in the military as a physician in the Army Air Force during World War II he practiced general medicine and surgery in Detroit, Michigan for 45 years. Classical music, opera, golf, and bridge were his lifelong passions. He bestowed loving attention on his family, friends and patients, whose lives were forever touched by him. Preceded in death by his six siblings and his playwright daughter, Lynne Alvarez, he is survived by his loving wife, Adeline, his son David Rottenberg and daughter-in-law Rochelle Rottenberg; his daughter Margery Melchiode and his son-in-law Gerald Melchiode; his granddaughters Elizabeth Rottenberg, Catherine Rottenberg and her husband Neve Gordon; Nancy Ives and her husband Joshua Ives; and Amy Rochow and her husband Todd Rochow; his great-grandchildren Ari and Aviv Gordon-Rottenberg and Ava Rochow as well as many nieces, nephews and cousins. SARVER WILLIAM R. We mourn with great sadness the passing of Bill Sarver, 70, on August 12, 2013, after a long and courageous battle with renal failure. A teacher and lawyer by profession, Bill was a passionate, lifelong advocate of public education and public school employees. He was the Executive Director of the Warren Education Association MEA/NEA for more than twenty years. Bill attended, and later taught in the Highland Park Public Schools. His great height and skills on the basketball court earned him a scholarship to the University of Detroit where he graduated with a BA in history, followed by a Juris Doctorate from the Detroit College of Law. He is survived by his wife, Judy Locher, and daughter Justine Sarver.
