BURESH EDWIN JOSEPH Whether he was cheering for the Los Angeles Angels or sailing on the Pacific, or eating at Junior's after a day at Malibu Beach, it added up to a perfect retirement. But it would not last and it is with a sad heart that we announce Edwin Joseph Buresh passed away at home in Newport Beach June 15th at age 83. Edwin loved being near water, and he went to California in 2006 after his wife died to spend time with his son Chuck. He re-visited Fort Ord in San Francisco Bay and Coronado Island in Southern California, places that held significance for him. Family joined him at Palm Springs, Big Bear Lake and Las Vegas. He was proud when his son got his Captain's license and they were able to navigate the coast. Edwin was born August 18, 1926 at St. Borgess Hospital, Kalamazoo to parents Frank and Mary (Haiduk). He was baptized and active in St. Joseph Church. He fished with his cousins and he followed the Detroit Tigers. He took engineering classes at Kalamazoo College and met the beautiful Elonia. When they married in 1948, he said he was the happiest and luckiest guy alive. He took his first job in the 1950s at the Lincoln-Mercury division at Ford in Dearborn, MI. He loved cars, and he brought home the new Country Squire station wagon to the delight of his five children - Sandi, Pam, Debbie, Ed Jr. and Chuck. In the 60s he worked for IBM at Yorktown Heights, New York. As Manager, Information Services and Systems at Mohansic (ASDD) one of his projects led to the development of bar coding. In the 70s Edwin was hired as the first planning analyst at Blue Cross/Blue Shield of Michigan. He became Manager of Long Range Planning and eventually, Manager and Director of Corporate Planning. He also taught 'fundamentals of corporate planning' and his class was a business staple for many semesters at Wayne State University. He always found time for his favorite hobby, woodworking, and the results - especially a sewing cabinet with tiny drawers - were prized for their perfectionism. While he never talked about what he saw in the Philippines with the 10th Army, 381st Infantry, 96th Division, he received the Purple Heart after being wounded in Okinawa. His wool dress uniform displays many commendation medals and awards. To him, he was proud to stand up for his country, and his service was just one of the many aspects and paths his life took. His family believes there is no better generation of Americans than that of their father's era. He will be buried July 27th with military honors at Fort Custer National Cemetery. He leaves behind five children, nine grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
