ALLAM LOUISE Was born 99 years ago to Shaker and Margaret (Ossea) Allam on March 27, 1912 in Appalacia, Virginia. She was the second oldest daughter, with five brothers James, Joe, Frederick, Edward, Nicholas, and two sisters Mae Allen and Bernice Allam, all deceased. Until her passing, she lived close to her youngest sister, Manilla Buszka. Helping with family chores as a child, she learned to sew, crochet and knit, to fulfill family needs, all talents that became refined over the years. During her high school years, she worked in her father's mercantile store doing the bookkeeping. When the family moved to Detroit, Louise together with her single brother Joe, operated a grocery store. Her skills progressed into a career with J.L. Hudson Company Accounting Department. Louise was proud to work at the downtown location retiring twenty-five years later. With her eldest sister, Louise traveled to the Middle Eastern countries, seeing the homeland of their parents. Her greatest joy in life was to share with her siblings' families. It can be truly said that she has touched so many lives. The Allam family expanded over the decades, earning her the title of aunt to great-great aunt for about a hundred nieces and nephews. BETKER EDWARD C. Age 96, peacefully went to meet Jesus in heaven on June 1, 2011. Edward was born in Detroit to Edward and Augusta (nee Birnbaum) Betker. He attended St. Stephen Lutheran School, Southwestern High School and Wayne State University. In 1936 he joined the staff of The Detroit News, in the Reference Library, retiring in 1980. During his many years of service to St. Stephen Lutheran Church and Emmanuel Lutheran Church, he served as elder, usher, Sunday School teacher, choir member and also as member of many church committees, as well as the Lutheran church at large. DUNLAP BISHOP CLIFFORD CALEB Age 81 of Southfield, Michigan made his transition on May 26, 2011. He is survived by his wife, Annis Dunlap, of 59 years, and 8 children. Bishop Dunlap was ordained a deacon in the early 1960's. He became a licensed minister in 1972 and was ordained as elder in 1975. In 1990, he was installed as pastor of Greater Love Tabernacle C.O.G.I.C. In 1998 he was appointed Superintendent of the Deliverance District. In 2000, he was appointed as Administrative and Special Assistant to the Bishop. In 2006, Bishop Dunlap was consecrated to the bishopric of the Church of God in Christ and became the Jurisdictional Prelate of Great Lakes First Ecclesiastical Jurisdiction of Michigan. As an Episcopal Priest, Emery was Rector of the Church of the Holy Spirit on Newburgh Rd. in Livonia from 1976-2002. He taught English at Redford High School in 1964, and was a member of the Detroit Council of Churches where he conducted televised Sunday Morning Worship Services on WDIV Channel 4 in Detroit. GRIFFIN JAMES JR. "JIM" Jim's life was suddenly ended on May 21, 2011 after a very brief illness. His bright light is now illuminating his next adventure, but he leaves many behind who sorely miss his love, his laughter, and his caring. Jim was born in Detroit on April 23, 1939 to James and Johanna Griffin. He attended St. Cecelia High School where he excelled in sports. After serving in Korea as part of the Atomic Artillery Unit stationed with the 8th Army I COR from 1958 through 1960, Jim became part of the plant security force at Detroit's BUDD Company. He retired from here in 1994 after making lifelong friends and enjoying a passion for horse racing. Jim's bachelorhood ended in 2000 at age 61 when he married the former Nancy Walters Pollock. In 2005 they moved to Sun City West, AZ. Jim leaves the love of his life, his wife Nancy; his sisters Joan Fascetti and Mary Ann Craddock (Timothy); his brother Danny Griffin; his deceased brother Joe's wife Pat Griffin; nieces Maribeth Guys (Phillip), Susan Campbell (Scott), and Sarah Griffin; nephews Robert Fascetti (Carolyn), Timothy Craddock (Shannon), Patrick Craddock (Amber), Joe Griffin (Suzanne), and Danny Griffin (Julia); and his much-loved great-nephews and a great-niece. The family is planning a celebration of his life later this summer.

HARTWELL EDWINA ANN of Rochester, Michigan died May 30th 2011 with her family by her side. A Memorial Service will be held at St. Mary's Church, 2765 John R Rd. HOCK MARY JANE McCORMICK March 20, 1927April 11, 2011. Mary Jane Hock passed away in Omaha, Nebraska. She earned a B.S. at University of Boston, and worked as a microbiologist under Dr. Jonas Salk at Parke Davis, supporting development of the polio vaccine. Married to John J. Hock in 1955, she was a devoted and loving wife and working mother. She was founding Exec Director at Detroit Council for the Arts, and held Exec Dir positions at Pewabic Pottery and Downtown Sr. Citizens Ctr. Support for arts, community activism, and advocacy for justice were ever a focus in her life. Her interests included sailing, cooking, art, literature, Irish culture, gardening, birding, and most especially, politics. She will be missed by her many friends, by her children, John, Matt, Peter, Peggy, Marilyn Hill and Jim, and by her siblings Peggy Kelly, Kathy Hernberg and George McCormick, ten grandchildren, and many nieces and nephews.
