BOWEN DONALD RICHARD September 17, 1936 – July 3, 2012. Beloved husband of Jackie; father of Amy (Michael), Bradford (Lisa) and Craig; stepfather of Jerry (Robyn) and Jamie (Charles); grandfather of nine grandchildren; son of Hazel and Richard; brother of Barbara (Stigleman). Mr. Bowen was a 1954 graduate of McKenzie High School in Detroit. Following high school he went to work for General Motors Cadillac Motor Division, and then served 2 years in the United States' Army. Following his military service he returned to General Motors with the Chevrolet Motor Division. He attended General Motors Institute, earning his BSME in 1961; followed by a fellowship at Case Western Reserve from which he earned his MSME in 1963. During his long career with General Motors he held many titles, including Director, General Motors Proving Grounds, and Assistant Chief Engineer for Buick-Oldsmobile-Cadillac Luxury Car Division. Following his retirement from General Motors in 1992, he provided technical assistance and consulting services to various companies through Bowen & Associates. He was a member of the Alpha Tau Iota Honorary Engineering Fraternity, and was a member of the Society of Automotive Engineers for over 50 years. Mr. Bowen was an avid car enthusiast, owning many Corvettes during his life time. He loved boating and water skiing; playing with his dogs, electric trains, remote control toys; and most of all he loved his family. KNITTEL SUE ANN (NEE CHANEY) of Detroit and Farmington Hills, passed away peacefully on July 3, 2012 after a three year battle with colon cancer. She left this world just as she lived: with grace and a sweet spirit. She will be eternally cherished by her daughters Julie Pieri and Lisa Knittel, and her son Dennis Knittel, and her sons-in-laws Desmond Pieri and Robert Howell, and her daughter-in-law Jill Knittel. She is preceded in death by her beloved son Todd and her devoted husband Gerald Knittel. She is the cherished grandmother of Devan and Jesse Knittel, Dane, Gray, and Carl Pieri, and Killian Howell. Sue is the adored sister of Todd and Sally Chaney, and predeceased by her loving brother Tom. Faith, friends and family were Sue's abiding passions. She was a volunteer at St. Mary's of Royal Oak's "Clothes Closet" for several years and served in sacristy duty. She had a wonderful sense of humor- all the days of her life. She loved to travel with Don, be near the water, to listen to music, dance, fish, and garden. Mostly, she loved spending time with her family, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren who will all miss her terribly. She loved life and the Lord. Proud grandfather of Beth Anne and Jason Brokenbek, Alexander Kudlik, Annemarie and Sean Malady, and Max, Alex and Molly Hubert. Also survived by many loving nieces, nephews and good friends. Born in Braddock, Pennsylvania, Vince grew up in Detroit, Michigan where he attended Sacred Heart Seminary and the University of Detroit. He served honorably in the US Navy, Pacific Theater, during World War II. A man of boundless energy and varied interests, he owned Fire Fighter Sales & Service Company, Inc. as well as several other businesses. He operated a cattle farm in Butler County, wintered in Trinity, Florida, collected cars, tractors and a wide variety of interesting friends from all walks of life. His generosity knew no bounds. His family and friends who loved him dearly will forever miss his witty sense of humor and huge heart. To be teased by Vince was to be loved by Vince.
