FUSHMAN DR. JOHN A. Age 80, passed to the fullness of life on July 25th, 2010. Beloved husband of Rita. Dearest father of John (Everlyn) and Anne (Bill) Pinar. Loving grandfather of Will, Brett and Amanda. Dearest brother of Kathryn Reardon. Raised on the east side of Detroit, John graduated St. Paul High School in 1947 where he excelled in scholastics, basketball and football. He went on to the University of Michigan and graduated in 1952 with a Bachelor of Science in Chemistry. John then chose to pursue medicine and graduated from the University of Michigan's Medical School in 1952. Dr. Fushman served as a reserve officer in the US Navy's Medical Corps in the grade of 1st Lieutenant. During his eight years of service in the Navy, he spent two years active duty at the Navy Hospital in Yokosuka, Japan. He was also stationed at a field hospital in Saigon prior to the outbreak of the Vietnam War. He was honorably discharged in 1960. He completed his residency at Harper Hospital and received his Board Certification in Otolaryngology in 1963. Dr. Fushman began his long career at William Beaumont Hospital - Royal Oak on June 27th, 1962. He was appointed Chief of Otolaryngology on May 1st, 1976 until January 1st, 1995. He remained on staff through his retirement on March 27th, 2000. A noted physician, avid golfer and recreational pilot, he will be remembered for his compassion, kindness and honesty to everyone he met. LIPINSKI DOLORES T. 85, of Caseville, died Tuesday, July 27, 2010 at Home Sweet Home Retirement Home in Pigeon after a long illness. She was born April 24, 1925 in Detroit to the late Frank and Marie (Andrzejewski) Zmich. She graduated from St. Bernard High School, Detroit in 1943. She married Arthur P. Lipinski on November 11, 1944 at Barksdale Field in Shreveport, Louisiana. Together they settled in Warren and raised their family. In 1985 they retired to their lake home on Lake Huron which had been built by Dolores' family in the 1940's. She was an active member of St. Roch Catholic Church and sang in the choir. She was an excellent homemaker and enjoyed cooking and gardening. She is survived by her husband Arthur; children Paul of Royal Oak, Richard (Diane) of Sterling Heights, David (Debi) of California, Thomas (Paula) of Dryden and Karen (Al) Thornton of Warren; thirteen grandchildren and four great-grandchildren. McLAUGHLIN MARY FRANCES (McNAMARA) Age 82, died Saturday, July 24th at her resisdence with family by her side. She was born on Aug. 5, 1927 in Detroit. Mary is survived by her husband Thomas of nearly 63 years and children: Christine, Karen (Tim) Cronin, Mary Eileen, Maureen, Kevin (Sue), Kathy (John) Stuart, Patty (Dennis) Godin, Janice (Frank) Mafrice and 17 grandchildren. She also loved traveling, particularly with her husband in retirement. She earned her pilot's license and enjoyed flying her Cessna out of Detroit Metro with friends and family. She was the first woman instructor of the Gabriel Richard Leadership Course and a long time member of the League of Women Voters where she often moderated candidate's forums. MERZ ROBERT "BOB" ANDERSON Of Bloomfield Township, passed away peacefully on July 26, 2010, after a fight with colon cancer. Bob is survived by his wife, Florence (nee Fleer), and his children, Carol Sim-Campbell (Ron Campbell), Bob Merz (Susan), Lisa Toenniges (Jeff), and Jim Merz (Alice). He is also survived by seven grandchildren. Bob was born January 9, 1921, to Henry and Grace (nee Anderson) Merz in Pontiac. He is predeceased by his parents, his stepmother Alida (nee Bennett) Merz, and his sisters, Mary Jane Merz and Virginia Ensworth. Bob grew up in Bloomfield Township and graduated from Pontiac High School at the age of 15. He went on to study mechanical engineering at Michigan State College, where he was also editor of the MSC yearbook. Upon graduation, Bob began a 45-year career at GMC Truck. He took a leave of absence from GM in 1941 to join the Army Air Corps during WWII. Bob served as an aircraft maintenance officer in England and reached the rank of major. Upon returning from his military service, he built a house in Bloomfield Township and then resumed his sales career at GMC Truck. In 1954, Bob and Florence were married in Brooklyn, NY. He and his family moved around the country while he worked for GM, living in Minneapolis, Chicago, and Portland, Oregon, before returning to the Bloomfield Township area in 1973. Bob retired from GM in 1986 after 45 years and then worked part time for several years as a real estate agent with Florence, at Cranbrook Realtors. He served on the board of directors and as president of the Wing Lake Farms Homeowners Association. Bob restored a 1926 model T during his retirement and drove it each August in the Woodward Avenue Dream Cruise. He enjoyed spending a week each summer with his wife, their children, and their families for the past 14 years in Green Lake, Wisconsin. POTTS BARBARA VIVIAN Born May 20, 1911 to Charles and Ethel Sprague in Muncie, IN, died July 25, 2010. She was preceded in death by her husband, Herman Potts, former City of Royal Oak Police Chief, and son Alan Potts. WHITE STEVEN R. Age 79, of Seminole passed away at Arden Court Assisted Living Facility on July 26, 2010. He was born in Detroit, MI and relocated to Clearwater in 1988 coming from Grosse Ile MI. He was the owner and president of White Automotive Service Company which had multiple locations in the Detroit area. Mr. White was a graduate of the University of Michigan and a US Army veteran serving during the Korean War. He was a member of the Clearwater Yacht Club and Grosse Ile Yacht Club in Michigan where he served as past Commodore. He is survived by his wife of 57 years Mary Ann White, a son James R. White (Cheri), daughters, Janis McCarthy (Devin) and Carol Jugan (Michael). He is also survived by seven grandchildren and two great grandchildren.
