BESS RALPH FRANCIS 84, of Norvelt, Pennsylvania, died Tuesday, August 28, 2012 at home. He was born March 26, 1928 in River Rouge, MI, son of the late Harry A. Bess and the late Cecelia Drouillard Bess, the prettiest girl in River Rouge! He was a Detroit policeman for 10 years, owner of R F Bess Insurance Agency in Detroit, moved to Marshall, MI and opened an insurance agency in Battle Creek. MI; Video Production House, Pottery Norvelt Clay Works, accomplished in the arts - painter, stained glass, pottery; a man of many talents, a sailor and a pilot. Surviving are his first wife, Delphine Montie; his wife, Janet Wadsworth Wedl Bess; a brother, Patrick Bess and wife Patricia, Grosse Ile, MI; children, Kevin Bess, Battle Creek, MI, Brian Bess and wife Amy, Laingsburg, MI, Catherine Evans and husband Todd, Patricia Kieper, Ralph Bess, Jerry Bess, all of Marshall, MI, Vickie Groce and husband Brian, Battle Creek, MI, Brenda Mowrey and husband Robert, Hopwood, PA, Patricia Coan and husband Chris, Emeryville, California, Linda Waidelich, Battle Creek MI, and Michael Wedl, Uniontown, PA; 18 grandchildren; 10 great-grandchildren; special cousin, Mary Jo Braesoker and family, Woodhaven MI. He was preceded in death by a sister, Faye C. Bess. He was a veteran serving in the U.S. Army and U.S. Air Force. Per his request, there will be no viewing. CZAJKOWSKI JANET L. 73, of Shelby Township, died from cancer at 10:25 a.m. on Thursday, August 30, 2012 at the Van Wert Inpatient Hospice Center, Van Wert, Ohio. She was born February 3, 1939 in Detroit to Ernest and Eva Thompson Rickman who preceded her in death. She married John A. Czajkowski who also preceded her in death. Mrs. Czajkowski was a retired registered nurse and homemaker. Survivors include sons J. Andrew (Mary) Czajkowski, Van Wert, OH, and James (Jeanne) Czajkowski, of Michigan; three grandchildren, Alexandra, Katrina, Ryan; brother, Richard (Sarah) Rickman, Centerville, OH. FITZPATRICK BERTA (Nee NUNEZ), age 86, passed peacefully on August 27, 2012. She was preceded in death by her husband of almost 64 years, Louis. Berta was the cherished mother of Laura Harrington, Wendy Fitzpatrick and Barbara Hayes (Don). Dear grandmother to Michael and Jeffrey Harrington and Amanda and Griffin Hayes. Berta is survived by sister Mary Woods (Darrell), brothers Armand Nunez and Oscar Nunez (Charlene) and sister-in-law, Jeanette Fitzpatrick. During WWII Berta worked as a riveter on B-24 bombers at the Willow Run Aircraft Factory. She met her husband Louis at U of D. After raising her family, Berta completed her BA from Oakland University. She was a substitute teacher for several years before she began working for the federal government in Detroit. In 1986 Berta moved to Florida with her retired husband and continued her work with the government until she retired in 1993. She will be remembered for her vivacious personality and humor and be will dearly missed by all. Private memorial service will be held for family.
FRENCH CECILIA "JAN" NOVAK, born in Windsor, Ontario, passed away Thursday, August 30, 2012, at her Toledo, Ohio home, while under hospice care. Jan became a United States Citizen in 1976 during the Bicentennial Celebration of our Country. She was employed with the Graphic Arts Division of Wolverine Mailing, for many years before retiring in 1995. She is survived by her loving daughter Patti Fischer; granddaughters Trish (Shannon) Kreuz and Lea (Chris) Schuette; great-grandchildren Luke and Morgan and great-great-grandchild Roman.
