Council was an extremely successful entrepeneur who established Real Estate, Insurance, and Travel businesses in the City of Detroit. Council was a globetrotter who experienced a myriad of countries including Africa, China, India, the Caribbean and beyond. MILLS SHIRLEY Of Lowell, Michigan, Shirley Joan (Lemke) Mills, passed to heaven peacefully December 23, 2013 at the age of 79. Born in Detroit to the late Arthur and Lenna (Ashton) Lemke on November 6, 1934, Shirley grew up at the family's resort on the north shore of Green Bay outside Cedar River, MI. She met John Mills, who predeceased her earlier this year, while in college. They married in 1956. About one thousand adults remember Shirley as "Mrs. Mills," their favorite first grade teacher in Mancelona, after she and John moved to nearby Bellaire. Excellence in her work brought Shirley recognition as a state semi-finalist in the 1985 Teacher in Space program and a year teaching in Scotland on a Fulbright Exchange. She retired in 1990. Unquenchable thirst for adventure led Shirley to all seven continents, over the Arctic Circle, and to exotic locations with some of her grandchildren. Shirley is survived by her sons Paul (Margaret) of Munger and Neil (Lisa) of Lowell; grandchildren Calina, Ian, Aja, Forrest, Nigel, Matteus, Kateri, Isaac, Malachi, Laurine, Kolbe, Lucia, Levi, Sarah, and Mercedes; sisters, Verda McGowan of Kenneth City, Florida, Claudia (Carl) Arko of Gladstone, MI, and Lorna Phillips of Pewaukee, Wisconsin; and in-laws Joan Brunett of Lake Orion, MI and Norman (Dorothy) Mills of Davisburg, MI. MURZYN REGINA "VIRGIE" (nee ROZWALKA) passed away quietly at her home in Overland Park, Kansas on Saturday, December 21. She was 91. Regina worked at Kelsey-Hayes defense plant during World War II, where she met her husband, Stanley, when she asked him for a ride home. They were married shortly after the war. She later worked at Fisher Body, Livonia, as an inspector. After retirement, Virg and Stan traveled to Quebec, Boston, and New Orleans, took two Caribbean cruises, and another to Alaska. They later moved to Lenexa, Kansas where their daughter, Sylvia, and her husband, Oliver, still live. Regina is survived by her husband of 68 years, Stanley, her three children, Phyllis Erlenbusch, Sylvia Christianson, and Matthew Murzyn; her three grandchildren, Maureen Lindhardt, David Erlenbusch and Zoe Christianson and her two great-grandchildren, Atticus and Oscar Erlenbusch. POLANSKI VALERIE PAULINE, 58, born on June 18, 1955, of Clinton Township, Michigan, entered into the peace of heaven on December 23, 2013, with friends and family by her side. She will forever be loved and missed by her three beloved children, Alexandra Sova of Richmond, Virginia; Christopher West of East Lansing, MI; and Michael West of Clinton Township, MI and dog, Lexi. Survivors also include siblings: Thomas Polanski of Los Angeles, California; Karen Polanski of Whitmore Lake, MI; Cheryl Royer of Chanhassen, Minnesota, and three nieces: Emily, Juliana and Olivia Royer. Valerie was preceded in death by her beloved mother, Genevieve Polanski, father, Stanley Polanski; and brother, Erin Polanski. Valerie's complete love, and passion for her children is her most cherished legacy. Valerie was a lifelong Michigan resident and graduate of Lakeview High School in Saint Clair Shores, MI. She also devoted her time to work and service, as a title insurance agent in the Detroit-Metropolitan area and as both a Stephen minister and church usher. The memorial service is at 11:00 a.m., Friday, January 3, 2014, at St. Kieran Catholic Church, 53600 Mound Rd, Shelby Township, MI 48316. A lunch will be served after the service. A private interment will follow at Mt. Olivet Catholic Cemetery in Detroit, Michigan. RITTNER GLEN KEITH, 63, formally of Toledo and Dayton, Ohio, passed away on December 20, 2013 at his home, surrounded by his girls, after over a decade of courage battling renal cancer. He was born in Dayton, OH on December 30, 1949, the son of Stuart and Pearl Rittner. Glen attended Meadowdale High School, Bowling Green University (Undergraduate), and University of Toledo (Graduate), where he met his wife of 40 years, Carolyn. Glen spent his working career traveling the world as a global account sales manager in the automotive industry. He was a passionate golfer, trivia enthusiast, sports fanatic, but most importantly, adoring husband, father, brother, and friend. He was preceded in death by his father and mother Stuart and Pearl (Losikoff) Rittner; brother and sister-in-law Kenneth and Marilyn (Kahn) Rittner; and mother-in-law and father-in-law Edward and Dorothy (Downey) Mohler.
