WINKEL EFFIE E. April 19,1917 to April 10, 2013. Effie made her home in Franklin, Michigan, later retiring to Sun City West, Arizona. Her childhood was spent in Chebanse, Illinois. Married to the deceased Robert E. Winkel, former president of Crowley Department stores. She loved competing in almost every kind of game from golf to bridge, dominoes and hundreds of games of Candyland (she was never known to "throw" a game to a grandchild!!) Always a bit impish and with a twinkle in her eye. Effie's talents were many from cooking gourmet dinner parties, gardening (her yellow snap dragons were spectacular), traveling, and being an avid, successful investor in the stock market . She started her day with a cup of coffee and The Wall Street Journal. Being a mother and maintaining a beautiful home were a passion. And just enough to cause a bit of paranoia among friends and family, her favorite holiday was April Fool's Day. Effie is survived by her three children, Barbara Schoenith of Bellville, MI; Bob Winkel of Phoenix, AZ and Gail Linn of Rochester, MI. She had seven grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren. The grandchildren catch her true essence with the following words: "A chocolate-loving prankster"; "She had a great sense of humor and she was always creating opportunities to laugh and enjoy friends and family"; "She was a lot of fun and you always had her undivided attention"; "She was generous with her time and love making you the center of her universe"; "Despite her true fear of horses, she took me to horse camp for two weeks each summer"; "She crawled around on the floor playing dog, even into her early 90's"; and "She encouraged all of us to follow our dreams even if others may not approve"; and "She had a true fear of thunderstorms, getting anxious at the first sound of thunder" . She was loveable and loved back unconditionally. She will be greatly missed, but the positive memories will always be there. A private, family graveside service will be held for her at the Franklin Cemetery on April 20, 2013
