He lived in Rosscommon L'Anse, Central Lake where he retired from GTE in 1992, Charlevoix, Elkhart, IN, and Hazel Park, MI. He was a very active man and had many toys, and never had to give up his motorcycle. He was a man few words but managed to meet people easily and he was well liked. JACKSON DR. CHARLES EUGENE "GENE" 89, of Carmel IN, died peacefully on December 30, 2012. He was born August 18, 1923 in Bluffton IN to the late Charles S. and Lois Kyle Jackson. He was a 1946 graduate of IU School of Medicine. He served as staff internist and medical geneticist 19 years at Caylor-Nickel Clinic in Bluffton and 31 years at Henry Ford Hospital in Detroit where he was awarded the Distinguished Career Award in 1997. He retired to Temple TX in 2001, but continued his genetics research, publishing over 16 additional articles before his death (over 216 during his career). He was very happy to move back home to IN in February 2012 (as a native Hoosier). He was preceded in death by his wife of 59 years, Norma Lea Wampler Jackson in 2006, and by his two daughters, Penny L. Stover (husband Charles) of Georgetown TX and Janice A. Byrd (husband Tim) of Townsend TN. He is survived by his son, Dr. Jeffrey A. Jackson (wife Laurie) of Fishers IN, a brother, Richard H. Jackson of Palm Harbor FL, a sister, Dorothy Lubbes of Ft. Wayne IN, a granddaughter, Meghann Byrd Erhart (husband Michael) of Maryville TN, two grandsons, Dr. Ian A. Jackson (wife Laura) of Ft. Worth TX and Dr. Kyle J. MAAS ROBERT W. (February 26, 1928) of Oak Run Country Club and formerly of St. Clair Shores, Michigan, passed away peacefully in Ocala, Florida on January 1, 2013. Losing Sylvia (Mihalich), the love of his life for 66 years, who passed just 26 days prior, was too much and now they are both together again. His daughter, Peggy Herwick (Los Angeles) and son, Robert Maas (Atlanta) will miss him dearly and are thankful for his love and guidance and promise to carry that on. Bob was preceded in death by his parents, Roland H and Helen Maas, his brother Butch who died in WWII and grandson Andrew Maas. MONTGOMERY THOMAS C. "TOM" 89, of Detroit, MI, (formerly of Novi and West Bloomfield), passed away peacefully on January 1, 2013. Born March 19, 1923, to Dr. John C. and Mildred (Bennett) Montgomery in Detroit, MI., he married the love of his life, Marjorie Ann Mason (Marge) in 1945, his wife of 64 years until her passing in 2009. He was a proud graduate of the University of Detroit Jesuit High School ('40) where he captained the varsity basketball team and was honored as a Detroit All-City player. A veteran of the U.S. Navy, Tom served as a Lieutenant in World War II, where he flew a Navy PBY aircraft in the Pacific Region. Tom's professional life following the war centered on the housing construction industry where he began learning near the bottom and rose to the executive ranks. While Tom spent the bulk of his career as a Vice President of Bert L. Smokler & Co., he later formed T.C. Montgomery and Associates and ultimately concluded his career as the head of the engineering department for the Detroit Region of the Department of Housing and Urban Development. His interests throughout life included golf, competing at anything with his children, especially basketball (claiming victory over them in various famed "house championships" which he proudly announced recently that he would be taking with him to his eternal rest), ice cream, reading, playing practical jokes, laughing, the five o'clock cocktail hour, and taking a genuine interest in his family and friends. Tom's life can best be described in his own words: "I want everyone to know that I have had a wonderful happy life with no regrets and God has been very good to me. I have had more than 60 years with the girl I have loved more than anything in the world. We have been blessed with the six most wonderful, loving children imaginable, their spouses and grandchildren, each of whom I have loved dearly." PAUL MRS. DIANNE F. (HEJNA) age 76 of Westland, passed away January 2, 2013 after a lengthy battle with several debilitating illnesses. The "Mighty Midget", as Dianne was fondly called by her family, lived up to her name by refusing to acknowledge the pain and limitations her conditions forced her to deal with daily, and continuing to live independently and on her terms until forced to move in with family for the final few weeks of her life. She is survived by her daughter Kristine (Jay) Jordan and son Stephen (Jeanne) Paul; her grandchildren, Christopher and Jimmy Paul, James, Jacob, Joseph, and Jonathan Burger. She was preceded in death by her husband Stephen, and parents George and Lillian Hejna. Plans have been made for a small, private ceremony, with a larger celebration of her life in the works for later this spring. ROLICK JOAN RUBEN Age 90, passed away on December 28, 2012 at Brookdale Place in Ann Arbor, Michigan. Joan was born June 18, 1922, in Rochester, New York. She was preceded in death by her husband of 63 years, Samuel. Surviving relatives are Joan's two daughters, Wendy Rolick Busch, son-in-law, Stevan Albert Oswill, Allison (Liz) Hartley, son-in-law, Charles Hartley, son, John, and grandchildren, Michael and Rachel Hartley. Aside from being a devoted mother, mother-in-law, and grandmother, Joan served on many advocacy committees for the mentally ill in Oakland County. She was a member of the OCAP board, Oakland County's CMH housing task force, and the advisory committee for the Alliance for the Mentally Ill, among others. She will be missed by all that knew her. ROSS RAYMOND R. Raymond Ray Ross was born on November 12, 1917 in Memphis, TN to the late William and Ada Ross and was the last of ten children. After leaving Memphis he was enlisted in the US army in World War II where he earned an honorable discharge in 1944. After moving to Detroit, he worked for the City of Detroit and his entrepreneurial spirit led him to own and operate the Green Hat Lounge for over 40 years. He died peacefully on January 1, 2013 at the age of 95. Raymond leaves his devoted wife Margarete Holmes Ross and many other relatives and friends.
