DOWLING ANNA REGINA "NANCY" Age 80, of Hendersonville, and former resident of Brevard, North Carolina and Bradenton, Florida, died Thursday, January 2, 2014. Anna was born in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania in 1933 to the late Joseph W. and Mary Miner McCabe. Anna was preceded in death by her husband, John R. Dowling, and five siblings: Dick, Joseph, Billy, and Edward McCabe and Dolores Newport. "She loved much, laughed often, spoke her mind, and had a servant's heart. When it came to kindness she was frivolous. There's no replacing her." Anna was a lifetime lover of animals, especially dogs, and opened her own dog grooming business, Jonann's Poodle Salon, in the late 1960s, which she maintained until retiring at the age of 69. Additionally, she received her GED at the age of 44, graduated as an LPN from Manatee Vocational and Technical School in 1980, and worked fulltime at Suncoast Nursing Home for ten years. Anna was an avid reader and a beautiful singer. She delighted in handcrafted things and was rarely seen without a crochet hook in hand. She was a wonderful cook, and had a particular talent for making soups. Anna is survived by six children: John R. and wife Cyndi of Bradenton, FL; David A. and wife Carol of Northville, MI; Desiree A. Perry and husband Alan of Brevard, NC; Dee J. Barr and husband Sam of Bradenton, FL; Mary I. Collazo and husband Luis of Bradenton, FL; and Joseph H. and wife Katrina of Hendersonville, NC. She is also survived by fourteen grandchildren and nine great-grandchildren, and has two great-grandchildren on the way. A memorial service will be held at 11:00 a.m. Saturday, January 11 at Brevard Community Church in Brevard, NC. Family will receive friends at 10:00 am. EHRLICH PATRICIA ANN (nee JONES) died Thursday, Dec. 26, 2013. She was born March 13, 1922, in Owosso, to Nora S. and Leland N. Jones. She graduated from Michigan State Agricultural College in 1944 with a BS in chemistry. She married William G. Ehrlich in 1950, who predeceased her in 1996. They lived 52 years in Grosse Pointe, where they raised their four children: William W. Ehrlich MD (Carrie Sundeck) of Oklahoma City; the Rev. Penny Ehrlich Pitts of Frostburg, Md., David G. Ehrlich PhD (Yan Yang) of Chicago and Cynthia E. Winland Block (Steve Block) of Chicago. In 2006, she married Raymond Pinkham MD, a college sweetheart at MSU, and moved to Kalamazoo. He predeceased her in 2011. Mrs. Ehrlich was cremated. A Memorial Service will be held at 4 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 11, 2014, at Grosse Pointe Memorial Church, 16 Lakeshore Drive, Grosse Pointe Farms. FLYNN JAMES FRANCIS "JIMMY" January 4, 2014, while vacationing on the Big Island of Hawaii. He loved to spend his winters playing golf and enjoying the Hawaiian sunsets with his close friends and wife of thirty-one years, Nancy. Jim served his country in the U.S. Navy at the suggestion of his father, Tom. Later attending the University of Detroit, where he played basketball and other sports. Jim was the President of the family owned, third generation, Flynn Paving Company, where he worked alongside his son, Michael, modeling honesty and integrity. Although Jimmy was a man of few words, his demeanor was kind and understated. He was well respected by all who knew him, especially his children, who vow to uphold his legacy of love. He will be greatly missed. Jim is survived by his wife Nancy (LeBeau). GEARNS MARTIN age 85 of Williamston, passed away January 6, 2014 at his home. Born on October 5, 1928 in Omer, Michigan to Edward and Jesse (nee Stewart) Gearns. Beloved father of Sue (Jussi) Halme, Carl (Kimberly) Gearns, Diane Zaremba and John (Lynn) Gearns. Proud grandfather of Shawn, Katherine, Zachary, Zachariah and Luke. Martin attended Ecorse and Lincoln Park High Schools and was a member of the track team during high school with co-captain and life-long friend Dick James. After graduation, Martin served in the U.S. Army and attended Wayne University (now Wayne State University) on G.I. Bill, earning B.S. in Business Administration/ Accounting. Employed at the Ford Motor Company for 39 years. After retiring, Martin was an avid golfer and tennis player, as well as being active in many clubs. Martin enjoyed traveling, having visited over 40 countries and six continents in last 14 years. Martin is preceded in death by his parents and siblings Marguerite, Dorothy, Robert, Virginia, Barbara and Audrey.
