BONNIER BESS Jazz Pianist, 83, died Thursday, October 6, 2011, at her home in Grosse Pointe, Michigan. She was preceded in death by her sisters, Toula Dirksen, Loretta Anawalt and Paula Anawalt; and by her daughter-in-law, Lynette (Tosetti) Makres. She is survived by her sister Lita McKeehan and brother John Bonnier; her children, Dorian, Stanley and William Makres; daughter-in-law Karen (Podsiadly) Makres; and granddaughter Marissa Makres. She was a regular guest of the Montreux/Detroit Jazz Festival and the Michigan Jazz Festival at Schoolcraft College and the first artistic coordinator of the Detroit Institute of Arts "Jazz at the Institute" series. She appeared on many recordings beginning in 1958 with "Theme for the Tall One" on Argo Records. Her last recording, a jazz opera based on the works of William Shakespeare titled "Suite William", was released on her own label, Noteworks, in 1999. In 1986 she received the Michigan Award for Jazz, in 1990, the State of Michigan Governor's Award. In 1994 she was named "Musician of the Year" by the Southeastern Michigan Jazz Association (SEMJA). A memorial service will be held at the Grosse Pointe Unitarian Church at St. Clair and Maumee at 7 p.m. on Tuesday, November 15th followed by a reception at the Church and a celebration at the Blue Pointe Restaurant at 17131 East Warren near Cadieux in Detroit. BUSAROW DR. DONALD ARTHUR 77, lost his battle with leukemia on Monday, October 24, 2011, surrounded by his loving family, in the MD Anderson Cancer Research Center in Houston, TX. Don was born April 10, 1934 in Racine, WI, to Nickolai and Dorothy (Borgardt) Busarow. He is survived by his wife of 55 years, Peggy (Johnson), and six children: Kevin, Kelly, Kendall, Kerry, Kate, and Kristin; 14 grandchildren and one great grandson. Don received a Bachelor's degree from Concordia University, River Forest, IL, a Master's degree from the Cleveland Institute of Music and a Ph.D. from Michigan State University. He served churches in Detroit (Bethany Lutheran and Outer Drive Faith Lutheran), Cleveland and Milwaukee. He was a professor at Concordia College Milwaukee, WI, before coming to Wittenberg University, Springfield, OH, in 1975. At Wittenberg, he served as professor of music and University organist and directed the Wittenberg Choir for 28 years. During his career, Don received many honors for his compositions. His published works are included in the catalogs of seven publishing houses. In "Celebrating the Musical Heritage of the Lutheran Church" published by Thrivent, Don is named as one of the ten Lutheran composers representing the 20th century. She was the daughter of the late Dominico and Annunziata (Papasidero) Alessandro of Dearborn, MI, who immigrated to America in 1930 from Calabria, Italy. Beloved sister ofJames Alessandro, loving sisters-in- law to Rosalie Alessandro, Charlotte Alessandro and Helen (Kazaroff) Nafranowicz of Ann Arbor, Michigan. Brothers Frank and Sesto Alessandro and sisters Hope Eritano and Catherine Wilson preceded her in death. Virginia was a dedicated and loving wife to Irvin Kazaroff from 1943-1962 and lived in Dearborn and later Dearborn Heights, MI until 1971 when she met and married Thomas Consiglio from Southgate Michigan (1971-1998), both husbands preceded her in death. She is lovingly survived by her children and their spouses Dennis and Deborah Kazaroff, Nancy and Phillip Clervi, Thomas and Teena Consiglio, Anthony and Helen Consiglio and Michael and Susie Consiglio. Stepsons Alphonse and Andrew Consiglio preceded her in death. Loving grandmother of 16 and great-grandmother of 14. During World War II Virginia worked in various bomber plants doing her part for the war and where she met and fell in love with her first husband, Irvin Kazaroff. Over the years she continued to raise her children by working in production at various manufacturing and car companies. She became a full-time homemaker in 1971 and became involved in Italian-American groups in Michigan and California. Virginia loved to cook, was very patriotic, loved her country and openly displayed her pride in being an Italian-American. She was very happy living in Brunswick Forest, a community near Wilmington, North Carolina where she has lived with her daughter and family since 2009. She enjoyed relaxing days with her great-grandchildren and friends in Brunswick Forest and was looking forward to celebrating her 91st birthday in January 2012. FARR LLOYD LEON AKA "LEE" Born on a farm in Novinger, Missouri on March 16th 1927 to John Lloyd Farr and Ruby S. Slover Farr. Lloyd moved to the Detroit area in 1942, worked at many trades, spending the 25 years before retirement on the Redford Twp. Fire Dept. Nineteen of those years on supervision as well as training officer, did seven years in the United States Army; two on active duty, five reserves, and one year in Germany on occupation duty. He was a long time member of the Metropolitan club, 18 year member of Secord Eagles, and a lifetime member of VFW. Lloyd bought property in Gladwin county, MI in 1962, started his cottage 1963, and retired there in 1981. Lloyd was preceded in death by a step dad, dad, mother, step mother, two sisters, two sons Timothy and Lloyd, daughter Darlene. Lloyd is survived by a brother Bill Dimmitt of Mapleton, ILL.,a sister Nancy Mears of Odessa, MO., one son Lenard Farr of Floral City, FL., eight grandchildren, and nine great grandchildren.

GILBERT GERALD Our husband and father, Jerry Gilbert, died November 2, 2011. Jerry was born December 4, 1925 in Detroit, MI to Lillian and David M. Gilbert. Jerry was the older of two children. Jerry graduated from Central High School in Detroit and attended Wayne State University. He worked for his father at Standard Blue Print where he met the company's bookkeeper, Donna. After six years of dating, they married on October 31, 1965. Jerry worked for many years in the blue printing industry, including Giffels & Associates in Detroit. Jerry enjoyed sports of all kinds and could quote statistics of all the Detroit sports teams. Jerry did all he could to ensure that his children lived a more comfortable life then he did. He is survived by his wife, Donna, of Bountiful, Utah; daughter, Leah Forster of Salt Lake City; and son, Bruce, of Wayne, MI. Jerry is also survived by his grandson Lucas Gilbert. He was predeceased by his parents and sister, Marilyn Freedman. The family wishes to thank the many caregivers who provided loving care to Jerry over the years. KAISER ELMER 90, died November 4, 2011. He touched the hearts of everyone that knew him, being well-known for his sense of humor. A man of many talents, his career covered work as a journeyman with Ford Motor Company, metal model maker with General Motors and Boeing Aircraft as well as operating two funeral homes as a licensed mortician and funeral director. His passions in life were hydroplane racing and fishing. He is survived by his children, Katie Plese of Minnesota, Beverly Portuesi of Maine and Jennifer Ostlund of Michigan as well as grandchildren, Dylan and Rachel.
