She was predeceased by her daughter Claudia Therrien, husband Gerard Therrien, and granddaughter Elizabeth Ann Goeddeke. VanDecar CAROLYN ELIZABETH passed away on March 1, 2011 in Waterville, Ohio. Carolyn was born on June 23, 1923. Carolyn graduated from Cornell University in 1945. Her life was devoted to improving the lives of others through education and volunteerism. Carolyn was most proud of her children; James (Tama) VanDecar of Niceville, FL and Mary (Scott) Reed of Waterville, OH. She was "Nana" to 7 grandsons: Tyler Austin, Spencer and Lucas VanDecar and Nathaniel, Philip and Sam Reed. She also adored her nephew Stuart Gillette, his wife Yvette and their daughters; Maddy and Sydney. She is predeceased by her husband Philip. She will be greatly missed by many friends across the country but the lives she touched are forever changed. The family would like to thank the Avalon by Otterbein of Monclova community for providing care for Carolyn in the past few years. A memorial service will be held March 23, 2011 at 10 a.m. at the First Presbyterian Church, Royal Oak. The service will be immediately followed by a luncheon reception.
