HIGGINS JAMES T. "JIM" 57, passed away peacefully on November 18 surrounded by his family. He was born on June 30, 1953 in Gary, Indiana to J. Francis Higgins and Veronica Conroy Higgins. Raised in Miller, he attended St. Mary of the Lake and Andrean High School. Jim received both his undergraduate degree ('75) and his MBA ('77) from Purdue. After graduation, Jim joined Charles P Young as a commercial printing salesman in Chicago. In 1983, Jim married Beverly Wesely and in 1986 they moved to Michigan when Jim became head of the Detroit office of Pandick Press. For many years, Jim was CEO of American Reprographics Systems, which provided litigation support services to the Detroit legal community. In 2004, Jim became the CEO of MuniDeals, a printer and electronic distributor of Official Statements for the Municipal Securities Industry. Jim was a remarkable man who embraced life. He was a devoted family man who loved his children, people, Ireland and all sports, especially sailing. His charm and charisma were captivating. His smile lit up a room. He did not see strangers, only friends he hadn't met yet. He was always there to lend a hand to anyone in need. He treated everyone he met with fairness and respect. He distinguished himself through his intellect, energy, wonderful good humor, quiet strength, humility and kindness. He was just as excited and enthusiastic for the opportunities he saw for others as he was for himself. He was always positive and he focused on the bright side of life. His warmth, humor, generosity and faith were an inspiration. He rarely saw a glass as half empty - he saw it as completely full. He faced every adversity, including the last one, with dignity and grace. He was an extraordinary person who will be forever missed by all fortunate enough to have known him. In addition to his wife, Patti, who he married in 2009, Jim is survived by two cherished and devoted children, Cassy and Jack, who were awesome pillars of strength during the last twelve months of his life as he fought a courageous battle against brain cancer; his loving sister, Peg, and brother, Jay (Gail); three adoring nieces and a nephew, Maura, Kerry, Erin and Conor. Internment will be private. There will be a Memorial Mass at Our Lady of Victory Catholic Church, 133 Orchard Drive, Northville, MI 48167 on Tuesday, November 23rd, at 10:30 a.m. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests donations to Angela Hospice, 14100 Newburgh Road, Livonia, Michigan 48154 or to a charity of one's choosing.
