STIEG HAROLD age 85, of Bloomfield Hills, died in the Lord on April 12, 2013. A lifelong and true Michigan man, Harold was born in a parsonage in "The Thumb," and educated in a one-room schoolhouse, at Bad Axe High School and at the University of Michigan. He practiced law for nearly half a century in downtown Detroit. He and his wife of 60 years, Annette, who preceded him in death, met at the University of Michigan and raised three children who all graduated from the university. From 1961, Harold and Annette lived in the same house in Bloomfield Hills, and were members of Cross of Christ Lutheran Church. Harold instilled in his family a love of the outdoors, taking them camping in Michigan and leading backpacking trips throughout the Rocky Mountains. He and Annette spent most summers in Estes Park, Colorado, in a mountainside house with a view of the Continental Divide. Harold and Annette rarely missed a Michigan football game, and in 1991 they endowed the Stieg Memorial Scholarship, which provides need-based tuition assistance to top students from "The Thumb." For 50 years, Harold was on the board of trustees of The Carls Foundation, which seeks to improve the health and welfare of children, particularly those with hearing impairments, and to preserve natural areas. He is survived by sons Edward of Los Angeles, California, and William of Doylestown, Pennsylvania.; daughter Elizabeth of Bloomfield Hills; and six grandchildren. A memorial service will be held on Saturday, April 27th at 11:00 a.m. at Cross of Christ Lutheran Church, 1100 Lone Pine Road (at Telegraph Road), Bloomfield Hills. A.J. Desmond & Sons 248-549-0500.
