BAUER DANIEL MARTIN age 77 of Troy, Michigan, passed away on May 4, 2013. Beloved husband of Elizabeth "Betty" W. Smith Bauer whom he married on September 9, 1972. Dan was born March 27, 1936, in Detroit, Michigan to Daniel Martin Bauer Sr. and Marjorie Mildred (nee Jack) Bauer. He grew up in Ferndale, Michigan, and attended Jefferson Elementary, Lincoln High School, Highland Park Junior College and Western Michigan University; where he received bachelor and master degrees. He began a teaching career at Robert Frost Junior High School in Oak Park, then spent the remainder of his working life at Ferndale High School where he taught physical education from 1969 until his retirement in 1991. During his early years at Ferndale High School Dan was also a junior-varsity and varsity basketball coach and a varsity baseball coach. He loved Florida where he spent youthful summers with his beloved Uncle Harry Jack. He travelled extensively throughout the United States, enjoyed golf, boating and sight-seeing. He also loved Detroit sports teams. In 1978 he and Betty built a home in Florida. They enjoyed spending time there during their working years and retirement until Dan could no longer make the trip to Florida. He is survived by his godson Daniel Canine and family (Michelle and 'Sweetheart' Lia) whose devoted friendship and support throughout his illness were of special significance. Also survived by brother-in-law Dr. Lewis W. (Karen) Smith; sister-in-law Margaret (Neil) MacTavish; cousins Tom (Joyce) Aird, Nancy (Ed) Henrie, Mary Kay (Jeff) Mechlin; and former student and friend Larry Sherman. During his illness Dan was uplifted by the phone calls, visits, notes and other acts of kindness by his fraternity brothers, golf buddies and many other friends. BEGO GLORIA, 77, of Grand Rapids, Michigan peacefully passed away on May 18, 2013. She was born to the late Leonard and Dorothy Utschig, August 17, 1935 in Appleton, Wisconsin. Gloria graduated from St. Mary's High School in Appleton, WI. She attended Mount Mary College and graduated from Lawrence University in 1957. Upon graduating, Gloria moved to Michigan where she taught elementary and high school education in both Clarkston and Birmingham. In 1960, she married Eugene (Gene) Bego and they have been married for 52 years. Gloria cherished her husband and best friend Gene. A consummate mother and homemaker, she reveled in spending time with her five children, their spouses, and twelve grandchildren. She took joy in being with friends and, passionately volunteered in numerous community organizations. Gloria was an active sports enthusiast and particularly enjoyed her time playing golf and being in the outdoors. She also loved traveling, gardening, watching birds, cooking, and playing bridge. Gloria was fond of music and theater and in the early years performed in and directed numerous productions. Gloria had a very strong faith in God and loved the Lord. She was an active member of St. Hugo's Catholic Church of Bloomfield Hills and St. Robert of Newminster Parish of Ada, Michigan. Gloria is survived by her husband Gene and five children: Kathy Bego Schneider (husband Jack and children Henry, Karl, Clare, Leo, and Ben) of East Grand Rapids, Michigan, Chris Sturm (husband Jim Sturm and children Matt, John, and Dan) of Princeton, New Jersey, Greg Bego (wife Tracy and children Kris and Kelsea) of Ada, Michigan, Jenn Coffman (son Alex) of East Grand Rapids, Michigan, and Michael Bego (wife Charlene, daughter Ainsley and expected baby in July) of Greenwich, Connecticut. She is also survived by her six siblings Mary Dolven of Idaho Falls, Idaho, Pat McCoy of New London, Wisconsin, Dave Utschig of Colorado Springs, Colorado, Barbara Brown of Green Bay, Wisconsin, Tom Utschig of Eau Claire, Wisconsin, and Jeff Utschig of Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin. Parish Rosary will be prayed 7:45p.m. Tuesday at the funeral home. BEGUE FRANCIS "FRANK" JOSEPH died May 15, 2013, at Angela Hospice in Livonia at the age of 86. Frank was born May 7, 1927, in Detroit, Michigan, the son of Fred and Louise (nee Kennedy) Begue. He married Jeanne Martha Zager at St. Luke's Church, Detroit, on December 23, 1971. He was the beloved husband of the late Jeanne (nee Zager), brother of Marie Robertson, Agnes (Robert) Godek, Leon (Susan) Begue, the late Sister Therese Ann Begue RSM, and Thomas (Brenda) Begue. He is also survived by many nieces, nephews, and great nieces and nephews. Frank graduated with a BA degree from Sacred Heart Seminary College in 1949, earned a MDiv degree for St. John Provincial Seminary in 1953; and achieved his MSW in 1976. He worked as an Addiction Counselor for Brookfield Clinics at Garden City Hospital and St. Mary Mercy Hospital from 1972-2010. He was also chaplain at St. Joseph Mercy Hospital, Ann Arbor from 1996-2010. BRUCE MARY S. age 90 of Bellingham, Washington passed away May 11, 2013. Mary was born on November 25, 1922 in Hamilton, Scotland to Matthew and Agnes Brown. She joined the RAF (Royal Air Force) at 17 and worked in the Air Sea Rescue Unit. Just after the war she met William Duncan Bruce and they were married in 1948. In 1951 they moved to Ontario, Canada and in 1952 to Michigan. First they lived in various Detroit suburbs until they bought a farm in Lapeer, MI. In retirement Mary and William bought a motor home and toured the country for almost two years before finally stopping in Port Townsend, WA where they lived until 2004. After her husband William passed away in 2004 she moved to Bellingham to be closer to her family. Mary was preceded in death by her loving husband William Duncan Bruce, parents Matthew and Agnes Brown and her brother Matthew Brown. She is survived by her daughters Irene (Joseph) Hathaway, their children Alexandra and Mary, Victoria Bruce Hotson and her children, Elizabeth and William. He graduated in 1950 from the University of Michigan with a degree in mechanical engineering; was a Lieutenant in the US Army; and worked for many years in the automotive industry designing automation systems. Robert was an avid gardener and loved animals, as well as a good joke. His passion for the last 30 years was ballroom dancing with his wife, Mary. DUFFETT DOROTHY LOUISE ROMITO "DOTTIE" September 1,1928- May 14, 2013 of Stuart, Florida passed away on May 14, 2013. She was 84 years old, a beloved wife, partner, mother and grandmother and was predeceased, in 1997, by her husband of 46 years, Ralph Duffett, Jr. She was born in Charleroi, Pennsylvania, and graduated from Carnegie Mellon University (formerly Carnegie Tech) in 1951 with a degree in home economics where she was also the sweetheart of Sigma Nu and a member of Delta Gamma sorority. After graduation, she married and became a full-time homemaker raising five children on "The Island", Grosse Ile, Michigan and was an active member and elder of Grosse Ile Presbyterian Church. As a member of Grosse Ile Golf and Country Club, she enjoyed golf, was president of the Women's Golf Association and played bridge weekly with life-long friends. She traveled extensively throughout the world visiting many countries in Europe and the UK, as well as Japan, Mexico, and Canada. She also spent many enjoyable days boating and skiing and took her last ski run in her 74th year at Deer Valley, Utah. In their retirement years, Dottie and Ralph moved to Palm City, Florida where they were charter members of the Palm City Presbyterian Church and served as Stephen Ministers. She also attended Palm City Christian Church As a 65 year Cream Rose member of Delta Gamma sorority, she volunteered as a reader for the blind at Second Sight Studio in Stuart, Florida. She was a member of the American Association of University Women and the Italian-American Club. More than all of her many accomplishments, she would tell you that she centered her life on love as exemplified by Jesus Christ. Because she followed His example, she will be missed by many here and will also be a treasured addition to His Kingdom. She is survived by her long-time partner, Lloyd Hammond, her sister, Bertha Arcadipane, her children, Amy Chappel, Gary Duffett (Sherry), Brian Duffett, Todd Duffett (Patti), and Paula Wheeler(Kirk), thirteen grandchildren and many nieces and nephews, as well as her loving and dedicated caretaker and friend, Suzanne Labadie VandenBosch. A memorial service celebrating her life will be held at the Grosse Ile Presbyterian Church in Michigan at 10 am on June 22, 2013.
