Growing up as a young boy it was great to know Richard. He and my older brother Brian played football and baseball together. Many fond memories watching him play ball. He was also a very class act. At a passed Memorial parade Dick went out of his way to thank me for my service. I will never forget that thank you. RIP

Mr. Schryer was my 7th grade homeroom teacher in 1979. Being the tallest girl in class (and possibly the school) he was always asking me to join the basketball team. I finally said yes. I went to practice for 15 minutes and HATED it. I was a softball player! He laughed and said, "Well, you tried!" He was a respected teacher with a great personality and my two sisters after me would agree! My prayers and condolences to his family! They don't make teachers like him any more!

Martha and Family. We were so sadden to receive the call from Dave about Dick's passing. So many good memories about July 4th Family Reunions flooded my head and all the times we joked about OSU and Michigan. I spoke with mom and I will be bringing her and Aunt Dot up for the service. You are all in our thoughts and prayers. RIP Dick!

Mr. Schryer was one of my favorite middle school teachers. He was kind and funny and very well-respected. He also managed a classroom-full of pre- and early teens like a champ! I'm lucky to have also known other members of the Schryer family along the way - you are in my thoughts during this difficult time. Sending big hugs to you all.

I have fond memories of what a nice man Dick was. Such an asset to the community. And of course I always pictured your family, Martha, in the house on Sheridan where I grew up. My heart goes out to you at this time of your loss.

My prayers go out to you Marti; to you and your entire family. I can't say anything more about Dick than what they already know. I only wish I had known him better myself. My time with Dick was limited mostly to a football field back in 71, and even then he worked with players other than linemen. I grew up hearing all the stories about what a great athlete he was, and I only wish I could have seen him play in person. What I do remember was that he was the kind of coach that I enjoyed being around, not readily found in that day. He was a kind and caring coach! I pray that God grants you, and the whole family, peace and comfort during these sad times!

Mr. SHRYER was my favorite teacher in middle school and one of my most favorite teachers and coaches of all time. I had Mr.Shryer for social studies at East Middle School and he was my coach on the basketball team for 7th and 8th grade. His love for teaching and of the subject matter contributed greatly to my decision to get my degree to teach the same subjects 6th-12th grade. My thoughts and prayers are with his family and friends at this time, he was a great person, teacher and coach and will be missed by all.

I had Mr. Schryer as my 8th grade History and English teacher at East Middle School. I was also a part of the softball team that he coached that year. He was, by far, my favorite teacher I have ever had. And it was he who helped me discover my love of History. So much so that I went on to major in Social Studies, and minor in English at U of M. I also earned my teaching certificate there as well. I will certainly miss him. He had a profound affect on my life! He was everything a teacher should be.

Thomas McElroy08/30/2015
