Was born on November 23rd, 1933 in Birmingham, Alabama to Charles and Katie Middleton, and died December 29th, 2007. He is survived by his wife Jeannette, and children Clark, Eric (wife Cindy) and Beth Ginzinger (husband Mark) and grandchildren Maggie and Paul Ginzinger and Court Middleton. David attended Ensley High School in Birmingham, and then Auburn University where he lettered in football, track and basketball, and met his wife, Jeannette. After graduating, David and Jeannette were married. David played professional football with the Detroit Lions while simultaneously attending medical school at the University of Tennessee at Memphis. He completed a residency in Obstetrics and Gynecology at the University of Michigan and practiced as a physician in Ann Arbor for many years. David was well known for his optimism, love of exercise and sports and he especially liked to share the spirit of Christmas with family and friends. David suffered a stroke ten years ago and for the past six years has been a resident of Huron Woods where he has been lovingly and compassionately cared for by a superb cadre of staff. David fell on Christmas Eve and experienced a fatal head injury. The exemplary staff at St. Joseph's Hospital is also recognized for their inspiring and heartfelt care that David and his family received in his final days. A memorial service will be held at Huron Woods on Monday, December 31st at 2 p.m. Contributions in David's name can be made to Huron Woods, 5361 McAuley Drive, Ann Arbor, MI 48197. Our heartfelt sympathies and prayers go out to you. David was always a favorite cousin of my mother (Betty Middleton Scrugham). She was so proud of his many accomplishments and was a fellow Auburn alumni. May God give you comfort in this time of great sorrow.
