Miss the poker games of years past. My condolances to the family and I will be at the memorial on Friday. I assume it will be at the studio he had 20 years ago on East Grand Boulevard? I have been in California for that long and just moved back.

I share the sentiments of others when I say that aside from his obvious gifts as a photographer, Ameen was a wonderful man. He exuded warmth, sincerity and class in the way he carried himself. He was unaffected by his talent and success, a rare gift in the world he dwelt. God bless him and my condolences to his family.

I am so sad I can't even express myself. Ameen was sucha wonderful and colorful, and funny and sweet, person, there was no other like him, though his beautiful children are following in his footsteps. His wife Arlene has been an amazing and devoted and loving wife and mother, and we are all so very, very sad for her and the children. There has never been anyone like Ameen, and he will be missed everyday by all of his devoted friends, family and followers.

chris ward10/05/2010

Ameen was such a pleasure to be with. A talented and generous man. My condolences to his family.

jim turnbull10/05/2010

Being of similar ages and with many interests in common, Ameen knew more of my life in the last 30 years than any other human being, other than my wife. He laughed, scolded, advised, threat-ened, dreamed and supported, and always left me feeling better and happier, and all because I was one of, what had to be, Ameen's vast army of 'close' friends.

Teresa Whitcraft10/05/2010

What an amazing man!!! Ameen was one of the most talented, generous, and funny man I have ever had the fortune of knowing. Our families had some of the craziest and wildest adventures together. Ameen is one of those people who has truly touched the lives of so many and will definitely leave and empty space in their hearts with his passing. Though gone physically, spiritually that laugh and smile will be with us always. He is free again. Love to his children and my dear friend, Arlene.

Kent Lund10/05/2010

Ameen--We will forever be remembered by the tracks we leave. Your tracks are beautiful. What a loss truly a very nice man. I wonder how Ameen will light Gods portrait.

Sally Miller - Brade10/05/2010

Talent bigger than the man. Heart bigger than the man. God Bless.

Jim Haefner10/05/2010

Ameen and I met many years ago. He was instrumental in my decision to pursue photography as a career. He loved people, that showed both in his work and his life. We used to have so much fun playing cribbage, darts and pool, hanging out at 15 E. Baltimore. Who can forget (or remember?) the incredible parties at his current studio (one of which is where I met my wife, Kathy). He was in a class of his own and will be missed by so many.

Karen, Ilya, Sam, Maddy Hardey10/05/2010

Our thoughts and prayers are with you Arlene, Ara and Ana. We remember with a smile Ameen and all the fun he brought into our lives. He was a delight to work with and a true gift to his profession. His love of people showed in every photo he took and every personal contact he made. Photos he took of our family decorate the walls of our home and are constant reminders of his talent and the great times we had at the studio. Thank you for sharing your husband/Dad with us all of these years. What a blessing for us to have had so many special moments with him. You are his legacy and his true gifts. Keep remembering his life and he will live within in each of you. We, too, will continue to share and keep his life alive in our hearts. May God bless you with peace and inner contentment. Love, The Hardey Family

Ameen was the warmest, most likeable person I have ever known. He cared about everyone; that's why his photographs of people were so wonderful. His subjects totally responded to him. He was a great shooter, but an even greater human being. He will be missed.

Steve Tuttle10/06/2010

I worked for Ameen for many years doing small contracting jobs and never missed a chance to visit the Studio. Ameen always made sure everyone was welcome and had a great time. His love of people was obvious and I never visited the Studio that I did not meet someone new....who Ameen always took the time to introduce me to. He will be missed.....His pictures of Bicycle Slim ended up in a show at the DIA. We will miss him...

mark Centkowski10/07/2010

I left Detroit over 25 years ago but I still came back to visit family. I stopped by Ameen's studio and he took pictures of my daughter at age 1. I still have the composite of those shots. He did it for free just because he was Ameen. What a great guy.

Lisa Goich10/07/2010

The Detroit creative community lost a true legend this week. Ameen was a master at his craft and a heck of a great guy. Anyone who had the pleasure of working with him over the years knows that he was a truly special man (And he threw great parties!). My condolences go out to his family and friends. Abdeen Jabara12/05/2010

This is a tragic loss which I have only now learned of. Ameen and his work will be sorely missed.

Bob Monement11/23/2012

Ameen's passing is a great loss to Detroit and to humanity. I first met Ameen in the 1960's, when I worked at Campbell-Ewald Advertising. He was my first introduction to Lebanese food and to great photography. His sensitivity with the lens perfectly matched his sensitivity as a human being. He was one of the kindest, most caring people I've ever known. Bless you Ameen.

Joan Burgin04/01/2013

Today 4.1.13 I was just writing a friend of Ameen's asking how he was doing. Then I decided to Google Ameen. I was shocked to read he had passed away. I adored him like all that encountered him. I met him in the 70's visited his studio a many times. For me Ameen made me feel better about myself and made me feel loved--He always uplifted my spirits-a passionate, vibrant, caring (the adjectives go on and on) wonderful man. I am so saddened to read this 2 1/2 years later--God surely works in mysterious ways he led me today to Ameen. God Bless you Ameen. I am so happy I had met you and so sad you are gone.

Jillian Garvin04/22/2014

I recently moved back to the Detroit area, after heading out west in 2007. In searching for local photographers, I came across Ameen (of course!) When I googled his name I was shocked to learn the tragic news from three and a half years ago! As a young Art Director, my first photo shoot was with Ameen. Everyone knows his extreme talents but it was also his warmth and humor that made Ameen such a joy to work with. And yes, who can forget the incredible parties he threw at his loft space?? They were epic! This is a huge loss to his many family and friends as well as to the city of Detroit. Ameen is a legend! May his memory be a blessing to all.
