BURKE CAROLYN D. Of Detroit. August 6, 1947-May 10, 2012. Longtime Ford Motor Company Public Affairs Executive. During her tenure at Ford, Carolyn distinguished herself in a series of key appointments in which she supervised community affairs, corporate strategy, sales and marketing media relations, and international public affairs. A trailblazer and catalyst for change, Carolyn earned the distinction of being one of the first executive-level African-American women at Ford. Carolyn was a member of Tots and Teens of America, Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, National Association of Black Journalists and Public Relations Society of America, and a lifetime member of the NAACP. She also was the recipient of numerous honors and accolades. Carolyn was greatly loved and will be forever remembered. Carolyn leaves to celebrate her life and continue her legacy her devoted husband, Leon Burke; cherished children, Leon E. Burke III, and Maunda Ghenet (William) Land; loving sisters, Emma Lee Moore, Verselylee Phipps and Johnnie Pearl Ingram; dear brothers, Darnell (Deborah) Dennis, Lamar (Rochelle) Dennis and Cornelius (Jennifer) Dennis; and a host of other treasured relatives and friends. To Leon and the entire Burke Family -Sorry to hear of the loss of Carolyn. She and I worked together for many years at Ford Motor Company; she was truly a jewel in Ford's crown. May her soul rest in peace. You are certainly in our thoughts and prayers.
She will be dearly missed. Our monthly chats, my travel advisor, my cook specialist , my friend my aunt. She was a wonderful women.
