Death Notices

LAUER ALDEN ROBERT Age 94 of Detroit, passed away October 20, 2012. Beloved husband of 60 years to his late wife Elizabeth (Beck) Lauer. He was preceded in death by his son Carl. Alden is survived by his sons David (Judy) and Robert, and daughter Margaret; also nine grandchildren, six great grandchildren and a host of very close nieces and nephews. Robert was an all-star athlete at St. Anthony High School, a Speed Skater, Barrel Jumper and Ballroom dancer. During the depression, he hopped freight cars to visit the west coast. He was an Electrical Supervisor at Chrysler, had an electrical business on the side, and was a "Jack of all trades". Alden worked hard until the end, always inspired by the poem "Don't Quit". "Rest if you must, but don't you quit". Visitation Thursday, October 25 1-9pm at Chas. Verheyden Funeral Home, Inc., 28499 Schoenherr (S. of 12 Mile), Warren. Funeral Friday, October 26; In state 9:30am until the time of Mass 10:00am at Assumption Grotto Catholic Church, 13770 Gratiot, Detroit.
