LOWES JOAN L. Age 88, of Rochester, died peacefully with her family by her side November 10, 2012. Born in Homestead, PA, raised in Clawson during the depression era; Joan came to Rochester in 1953 with her daughter Susan. A WWII widow, she put herself through Pharmacy school utilizing the GI Bill. She met Ken and joined the Lowes family in 1954 while working at Purdy's Drug Store on Main St. in Rochester. Joan was a very dedicated homemaker and mother who enjoyed all aspects of family life. Wife of the late Ken "Hank" Lowes and the late Herbert A. Killby; mother of Susan (the late Lee) Fifield, Sara Jo Lowes and Marne (the late Mark) Kiekbusch; grandmother of Adam (Kasey) Fifield, Daniel (Julie) Fifield and Erin (Dane) Fox; great-grandmother of Chelsea, Kendal, Shanna, Nicole, Darci, Leanne, Jesse and Devon; great-great-grandmother of Alyssa, Matthew, Dominic and Nathan; also survived by many loving nieces, nephews and friends. Funeral service Wednesday (in state 10:00 a.m.) 11:00 a.m. at the First Congregational Church of Rochester, 1315 Pine St., Rochester; visitation Tuesday 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at Pixley Funeral Home, 322 W. University Drive, Rochester. In Lieu of flowers memorial contributions may be made to Leader Dogs for the Blind or Friends of the Library of Rochester Hills.
