CRENSHAW HOWARD H. Family and friends are mourning the loss of Howard Crenshaw, 85, formerly of Berkley, who lost his long battle with cancer on Friday, December 14. Howard is survived by his wife of 61 years, Jeanne (Forgue); four sons, Marshall (Ione Pyden), Mitchell (Amy Karanfilian), Robert (Tammy Park), and John (Camille Salvatto). He also leaves five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren. Howard was born in Flint, Michigan. He graduated from Bendle High School and immediately enlisted in the U.S. Navy. Following his discharge he attended junior college in St. Pettersburg, Florida, graduating from Michigan State University in 1953. Howard began his career with the State Tax Commission, then served as the first Equalization Director for Jackson County. He then worked as City Assessor for Huntington Woods, and later for the City of Berkley as Assessor, City Clerk and City Manager. He began work as Business Administrator of the Department of Laboratory Medicine at Sinai Hospital of Detroit in 1969, and remained at Sinai until his retirement in September, 1990. Howard and Jeanne moved to Michaywé, a golfing community south of Gaylord, in 1992, where he remained until his death. Howard was very active in the Golf Association, serving in many different areas, including Association President. Howard continued to be active until this September, when the cancer became too disabling to continue. A memorial celebration of his life will be held at the Michaywé Club House, 1535 Opal Lake Road, Gaylord, MI 49735, on Sunday, January 6, 2013, at 3 p.m. Memorial contributions in his honor may be sent to Hospice of Little Traverse Bay, Otsego Memorial Hospital, or the Salvation Army.
