BROWN BARBARA LORRAINE T. (NEE GRIGGS) of Detroit, Michigan went home to be with Our Lord and Savior on December 31, 2012 – New Year's Eve after a courageous battle with cancer at Karmanos Cancer Institute. She was 76. A viewing will be held on Friday, January 4, 2013 (4pm – 9pm) at Swanson Funeral Home (www.swansonfuneralhome.com) 14751 W. McNichols Road, Detroit, Michigan 48235. A Homegoing Service will be held on Saturday, January 5, 2013, 11am at Outer Drive Faith Lutheran Church, 17500 James Couzens Hwy, Detroit, MI 48235. Mrs. Brown retired after 38 years as an elementary school teacher with the Detroit Public School District. She was active in the Bereavement Ministry at Outer Drive Faith Lutheran Church, Delta Sigma Theta Sorority and Tots n Teens for many years. Barbara was predeceased by her parents, Lois (nee Puryear) and Maceo Griggs, her older brother Nathanial Griggs, Sr. and her niece Melodie Lynn Griggs. She is survived by her beloved husband of 53 years, John H. Brown, Jr., her loving children Apryl R. Brown of Detroit, Daryck H. Brown (Sharon) of Tinton Falls, NJ, John M. Brown of Detroit, Wendi O. Brown of Washington, DC. Barbara leaves seven cherished grandchildren, Danielle Brown, Daryck J. Brown, Dylan Brown, Claude Glenn, Chelsea Brown, Jawanna Brown, DeJohn Brown. Barbara also leaves one great grandchild, Claude Glenn, Jr. Also surviving are her sister, Marlene Griggs of Detroit, Byron Griggs (Claudia) of Houston, Texas, her niece and nephews April Griggs, Jaime Baisden, and Nathanial Griggs, Jr. In lieu of flowers, kindly consider donations to Outer Drive Faith Lutheran Church Detroit, MI 48235.
