REV. LYNN ELLIOTT GRIMES

GRIMES REV. LYNN ELLIOTT Went to be with her Lord on Sunday, January 20, 2013. She was born April 30, 1943 in Champaign, Illinois, daughter to the late Russell and Louise (Moffitt) Elliott. Raised in Detroit, MI, Lynn attended Metropolitan United Methodist Church where she would first meet her future husband, Kip. What began at a Boy Scout dance when she was in 6th grade blossomed into a loving marriage of 47 years. Early in her life, Lynn knew that working in the church was the direction that God wanted her to take. After graduating from Albion College and marrying Kip in 1965, she immediately began work as the Christian Education Director at Okemos Community Church. While Lynn loved the evenings, weekends, and trips with the youth groups, she felt God's calling to become an ordained pastor. With the support of Kip and her two young boys, Christopher and Matthew, Lynn began her weekly commutes to Garrett Theological Seminary in Chicago. She graduated from Garrett in 1983 and was ordained in 1985. Lynn's appointments of ministry included Associate Pastor at Okemos Community Church, Senior Pastor at First United Methodist Church of Grand Ledge, District Superintendent of the Central District in Mt. Pleasant, and Senior Pastor of Holt United Methodist Church. In retirement, Lynn continued to service within the greater church by serving on the West Michigan Conference Board of Ordained Ministry and part-time at Trinity United Methodist Church. Throughout her nearly 48 years serving the Lord, Lynn baptized, married, and cared for countless people throughout mid-Michigan. At every appointment along the road, Lynn built friendships that lasted a lifetime. While Lynn and Kip were able to travel to Alaska, Hawaii, Europe, and across the United States on family trips, her favorite place in the world was the Elliott family cottage at Torch Lake. Spending time with family was one of Lynn's greatest joys, weather sitting in a cold ice rink watching grandsons Kaden and Maddox play hockey or welcoming her first granddaughter, Ella into the family just a week ago. Lynn will be greatly missed by her husband of 47 years, Kip and their children, Christopher (Leigh) of Chicago, IL and Matthew (Laura) of Onondaga, MI; precious grandchildren, Maddox, Kaden, and Ella; also her sisters, Ann Brackett of Wayzata, Minnesota, Judy Dantzer of Owosso, and Joy Leonard of Grand Ledge; many nieces and nephews. A Memorial Service will be held at 11 a.m. on Friday, January 25, 2013 at the Grand Ledge First United Methodist Church, 411 Harrison St., with Rev. Betty Smith and Rev. Molly Turner officiating. The family will begin to receive guests Thursday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the Peters & Murray Funeral Home in Grand Ledge. For those wishing, memorial contributions in memory of Lynn Elliott Grimes may be made to the United Methodist Committee on Relief (UMCOR), Eaton County Human Society, or Eaton Community Palliative Care (End of Life Care). Online condolences may be shared at www.petersandmurrayfuneralhome.com.

My family was a member of Okemos Community Church when Lynn was there. I really enjoyed Her workings in the church. My condolences to the family. Irene Estelle,
