I am so very sorry for your loss and for the loss to our medical ccommunity.
Dear Herkowitz Family, I am so sorry for your loss. Rachel I remember many years ago at BOH helping place a ribbon around Blossom before your parents surprised you with her. I knew your husband/dad from the horses and I was a nurse at Beaumont, how lucky we all were to have had known him. He will be missed.
Our deepest sympathy goes out to you and your family. Dr. Herkowitz will be GREATLY MISSED and we are very SAD. He was not only our recent surgeon but also a friend. We LOVED him....Regards, Mr.& Mrs. John Liedel
i was his patient in 2008 he was the best spine surgeon he diagnosed my back pain I will miss him
We are Beaumont retirees who worked the Harry and remember him well. We admired his skills and leadership. His sudden loss was painful and all at Beaumont who knew him will miss him. Jane CS Perrin, MD Karen Johnstone, P.T.,M.S.
27 years of back pain. R.I.P.
Former RN on 9 N at Beaumont. What a fantastic physician and such a terrible loss. I send my prayers and love to his family and all who knew him and had the privilege to work with him and learn from him.
you will be missed
Dear Jan: Josie and I recently had a pleasant dinner with Harry at the annual ISSLS banquet in Scottsdale. We were stunned when Frank informed us of his demise. We are so sad for you, Seth and Rachael. Harry is one of the most thoughtful and nice people we have ever had the privilege of knowing. We have great respect for him. Please accept our sincerest condolences to you and your family. Mark and Josie Brown
Sending our most heartfelt sympathies for the loss of a wonderful man and a great surgeon. Dr Harry will be missed by so many. We will be thankful always for his surgical skills and talent.
My heartfelt sympathy goes out to the Herkowitz family. Dr. Herkowitz was a remarkable surgeon who gave me a new quality of life after a spinal fusion and I will be forever grateful. My thoughts and prayers go out to you during this difficult time of loss.
I was his patient twice and he gave me back my life. The first time I needed him I cried and he said "don't cry, I promise you, you will be all right". He will be missed by many people. Susan I am so very, very sorry.
Wow. I walked into Beaumont in 1993 bent at a 90 degree angle and the next morning I walked out standing straight and my back has been fine since. What a great doctor, surgeon and man. He gave me a new life. How sad and I am so sorry.
There are no words to describe how sorry I am for your loss. My prayers and thoughts are with you and your family. I hope your fondest memories will keep you warm at night during this difficult time of bereavement. I have been Dr. Herkowitz's patient since 2002 and he will be greatly missed. Italia Terracciano
My condolences go out for the entire Herkowitz family as well as for the entire medical community. I am a patient of Dr. Herkowtiz and I would just like to say that he saved my life as well as my quality of life and that will never be forgotten. I am deeply saddened to hear this tragic news. Much love and prayers go out to him and his family.
To the family, friends, coworkers, staff and patients of Dr.Harry Herkowitz. He was the best in his field of work. He took care of his patients and he will be missed by all of us.
I have probably known Harry longer than most. We met in the Spring of 1967, when we were pledging Tau Epsilon Phi fraternity as undergrads at Wayne State. Harry, or "Herk" as we all called him then, took on a leadership role from the beginning and could be relied upon to "have your back" when needed. I enjoyed knowing "Herk" while at Wayne State. As happens, we went our separate ways after graduation and I never actually knew him as "Dr. Harry Herkowitz". To me, he was big, affable "Herk" who turned out pretty well.
A patient I was, what a talent we are losing. Just think of all he has done , and what he has taught. Let us all stand , a great man is passing .
I was a radiology technologist at Beaumont several years ago, and I also worked briefly for Harry in the office. His kindness and generosity to me was greatly received, he always had a smile and a handshake where ever I saw him. He will be sadly missed. May his soul be bound up in the bonds of life eternal, and may the family be blessed during this time.
I last met with Dr. Herkowitz on May 23, 2013, when we scheduled my back surgery for August. I was so sorry to hear of his passing. I knew he was a wonderful person the minute I met him. I told him he was a very handsome man, he gave a grin and said thank you and went about his business. He was highly recommended by several people. I will keep your family in my thoughts and prayers.
I was a patient of the wonderful Dr. Herkowitz. He did two recent surgeries on my back. I thought the world of him he was not only a GREAT surgeon but a very compassionate doctor. What a deep loss for not only to all his patients but to the medical world. My deepest sympathies to his family and all he touched throughout in his life.
I, Too am a patient of Dr. Harry, a two time spinal fusion. I remember the last time in his office, I told him he was my hero because I could walk again! He had rhe greatest smile and he almost blushed! He truly was the best! Where do we go from here? Rest in peace, Doc! Your life is an icon forever! I will never forget you.
How is it that you meet someone and they leave an impression that lasts a lifetime. I did business with Dr Herkowitz in 1989. I never saw him or heard from him since that day... but I remembered him. those who new him well must truly be at a loss. my sympathies.
Dr. Herkowitz did my back surgery on May 23, 2013. He was so kind and I remember him telling the nurse to treat me extra good. I told him I was grateful for the surgery and getting me in so soon considering my consult was the day before. I'm sorry for his family and I will pray for them.
I want Dr. Herkowitzs family to know that I will keep praying for them. He took the pain that I had lived with for 14 yrs away in Feb of 2010. I will ever be grateful to him and I will never forget how I felt when he came into the exam room and said "I can help you". He not only touched my back he touched me with is gentleness. There will never be anyone like him.
I am so sad! He did two surgeries on my back and he was an angel with his skills. My thoughts are with you. We will all miss him terribly so. Mike
I was a patient of this fine man with a neck fusion in 1996.Before I met the man ,I was told by several of the nurses that he was a gorgeous doctor. All I wanted was a great surgeon, and didn't care what he looked like.As we spoke ,he got right to the point, take medicine for the rest of my life ,or trust him, and that I did .a great surgeon, who solved my problem and to all the nurses, yes a fine looking man he was. What a terrible loss to the Beaumont family. God bless his family in this terrible loss.
I'm so sorry for your loss. Dr. Herkowitz saved me twice about ten years apart. The last time I saw him we joked that I'll see him again in 10 years. I'm blessed to have known him and I will never forget him.
To the family of Dr. Harry Herkowitz, I was shattered this morning to learn of my doctor's passing. I was a patient of Dr. Herkowitz and admired his knowledge and surgical talent. He blessed many lives with his ability. I always brought my young son to my appointments and instead of being inconvenienced by a toddler, he took the time to engage him in conversation. He spoke so highly of his own family and made mention to cherish each year because it "goes by so fast". He has left quite a legacy behind with all of the lives he has touched. Memories will perpetuate that legacy. Hold tight to them. Sincerely, Rachel Turnblom
Great loss for his family, friends, colleagues, and patients. Harry was a wonderful mentor and leader. He would want us to honor his memory by carrying on his good works, and we will strive to do so.
Dr. Herkowitz, you will forever be remembered for all you've done for our family. Dr Herkowitz is the finest Doctor we have ever known. We have a long family history with him & will miss him dearly. I just was to see him a few weeks ago & he was the picture of health. We pray for your family to get through this sad time. Bless you - Dianne & Stanley
In 2004, Dr. Herkowitz performed my back surgery. I was told by his staff that it was the baby of all back surgeries and not to worry because I was in the hands of the very best. They were more than correct. I told everyone that Dr. Herkowitz walks on water in my opinion. When the world loses a healer those whom remain suffer tremendously. Dr. Herkowitz was a healer's healer and I am so very blessed for knowing him. My condolences for the entire Dr. Herkowitz loving family, his expert staff, his accomplished colleagues and to everyone this gracious, humble and true man ever helped.
Dr Herkowitz performed 2 surgeries on me. With the first one I was in the hospital for 4 days and was 2 hours away from home. Everyday he did rounds on me he sat and visited with me because he knew I had no visitors. Not only that but he got to know his patients and remembered them. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family. I am so sorry for your loss. May he rest peacefully in heaven.
Dr. Herkowitz surgically repaired a ruptured disc in my back in 1997 and gave me a new lease on life. I am so sorry for his loss. I have lost one of the few doctors that I had complete faith in.
As a medical student working with him in 2002, he looked like an icon to say the least. My thoughts and prayers go out to his family.
I am so saddened by the passing of Dr. Herkowitz. When I worked at Beaumont I would see him in the Starbucks coffee line every morning in his business attire then later on in the afternoon he would come by for his coffee fix wearing scrubs. He was always very cordial - to everyone. What a huge loss for Beaumont and the medical community. My sincerest condolences to his family.
To the family of Dr. Herkowitz. I was saddened to hear of your loss. I met Dr.H 37 years ago when he was a resident at Beaumont and I was a scolisis patient of Dr. Carl Samberg's. I remember him wearing a smile every day he came into my hospital room for 6 weeks. Dr. H. always brightened my day during a very difficult time. I have never forgotten that him because of that kind gesture.
Dearest Family: I am so sorry for your loss. I was a patient of his for 34 years. There are not enough words to express my sincere thanks and gratitude to you and your family for sharing him to all of his patients. He was a great surgeon but also a great friend to me. He will be sorely missed by all and the community. I was very lucky to have known him for as long as I did. He cared about people especially their health. You had a wonderful husband and a great dad. My deepest sympathy goes out to all of you. He will be sadly missed. Janet Hamlin
The Icon, The Doctor, The Ethics , the Loyalty, The Teachng, The Passion for his Gift...all will be greatly missed in one Phenomenal Man! I am so very sorry for all of the Family and affiliates and associates! Love and Sympathy to all! I worked with Dr. Haerkowitz in Surgery and in Radiology during his procedural Follow up Perfection! Everything had to be ONLY perfect for his Patients! Happy to serve him always! I'm deeply sad. A Very important man Lose!
He leaves a huge void and was a living angel. He is missed terribly and will be forever deeply loved and cherished!
We have just heard this sad news. Dr. Herkowitz performed two operations on my wife and three on me. I believe that I am only able to walk because of him. He was so kind and so skilled. I will remember him always.
I too was a patient of Dr. Herkowitz. He not only possessed a brilliant mind but had a dry sense of humor and was kinder than he wanted many people to see. He advised against surgery and I am ever grateful to his wisdom and "pep talks" when I realized my life would have to revolve my back. He has truly touched more people than he realized. My condolences to his family, patients, and medical community.
My most heartfelt condolences to the family of this great doctor. He changed my life with his marvelous surgical craft. I will miss him. We all will. A great loss to the medical community and I am sure to those closest to him.
To the Herkowitz Family, He was my husband's Dr and did 3 surgeries on his back. To this day, at the age of 73, my husband can bike 4-5 times a week up to 100 miles a day. He was the best of the best. Our sympathy to the family. We watched the Video and could feel all the love from the speakers. So, so sorry for your loss. Remember the good times and love each other even more than you do. Art (Henry) & Kathie Anderson
I am profoundly sorry for Dr. Harry's family, friends, countless work associates and yes, even his patients. I don't have adequate words to express my gratitude to his family I know made countless sacrifices, given his chosen profession. I knew him only as my "miracle doctor" whom I believe with all my heart, saved my life. I knew him to be a man of few words, yet he somehow instilled an immediate commanding trust, I have found to be a rare trait. I will always remember the talks we had and my attempts at expressing my enomous gratitute for his gift and how he would only blush while seeming to think he just put my spine back together again. I'm still not sure he truly believed he did anything but be brave enough to perform a high risk surgery, I previously could not find 1 "specialist" brave enough to attempt. I also know you don't get to be the best in your field by being home for dinner every night by 5:00. So please know I'm one of the countless patients that is indebted to you as his family for your sacrifices so he could be the great man he was meant to be.
I am on vacation and just found about Dr. Herkowitz. I am so sorry for all his family and friends. What a great guy to be a doctor. I had two surgeries and my wife had one. Each time he always had his patients welfare in mind and their families. We will miss him so much. No more words...just prayers, peace be with you and your loved ones.
Was so sorry to hear of his passing. My husband and I have the pleasure of seeing him a few weeks ago. He had done his cervical fusion in may 2012. The medical world has lost a great friend and doctor indeed. So sorry for your families lost.
I had a spinal problem which limited my mobility and went to see Dr. Herkowitz. He diagnosed "spinal stenosis" aggravated by a buildup of scar tissue from a previous diskectomy performed 25 years earlier. After I awoke from the anesthesia (age 65) he said, "I have just given you the spine of a 25 year old. Take care of it." I am now 76 and have not had as much as a "twinge" since while doing anything I want to do. God Bless Dr. Herkowitz. As a practicing Catholic I have had several Masses offered for him. He will be missed.
Retired RN. Had the pleasure of working with him when he was a resident at William Beaumont Hospital. We worked together on 6 North the Ortho unit. He was great with everyone he met. I'm sure Beaumont will really miss him. My prayers to his family
Dr. Herkowitz was a compassionate person and outstanding physician. I will personally miss him and professional care he gave his patients. May God bless the family during this difficult time. Sincerely, James Sears Rochester, Mi
Dr. H saved my life and I finally have no hump in my back! He also operated on my daughter, Dianna. May he rest in peace. We are very saddened with his passing. I am late in making my comment now but only because I moved to Florida. RIP Dr. H. You are truly missed by all that knew you!
Dr. Herkowitz was indeed my guardian angel because he made the noble gesture to perform a second emergency surgery on Memorial Day 2010 when I was readmitted to the hospital after contracting a Staph infection. He came from home on a holiday and I am grateful. May God bless his eternal soul and bless his family.
